Leland and Jack, Thanks for your concerns. Things could not have worked out better for us. We connected with Bob M. from Columbia (who lives less than 20 miles from us). He drove us to Jacksonville Friday where we stayed on base. We then got a flight out of Jacksonville that we thought was going to Pt. Mugu and then to Hickam. We were manifested at Jacksonville to Hickam. As we were being transported to the plane, we found out it was stopping at Whidbey, not Pt. Mugu, for refueling. We got off for about an hour for them to refuel, back to our seats and then to Hickam. It was a great flight. We got a good night's sleep last night and are headed out to the Hale Koa later this afternoon. We are staying at Pearl Harbor. And, yes, Roger Curry was on the flight with us. I hope it is as easy to get back as it was getting here. Angie |

Ok, First post! It was nice meeting all of you last night @ BFB. Don't know if we'll make dinner or the Lt. Dan show, so thanks for all the advice! Look forward to seeing you in the pax terminal somewhere! |

The C-40 this morning from North Island thru Whidbey to Hickam got cancelled at NI. I am at McChord with a boarding pass for McGuire and am headed to Spain and Italy. I figured everyone that would take seats from me is in Hawaii, so I shouldn't have any trouble. Next year. |

Jack, after a lot of confusion it looks like one of the two North Island flights out of Jax did show up after all. Ron and Angie said they were going to go to Jax anyway, and if all else failed Plan C would be Pt Mugu. So I suspect they are on their way. The upshot was that while the terminal was saying that the only California flight was to Pt Mugu, they called the squadron who told them the flight to North Island was still on. Looks like flight ops was right. |

Oops, I hadn't looked at the flight scheds when I wrote that last post... It looks like you might be in the air somewhere right now... Great! North Island was showing a mission up to Whidbey and then on to HIK, was that the same as the one out of Jacksonville? Either way hope you all made it. |

Ron & Angie, I have feeling you didn't make it either.. By looking at Leland's posts, it looked like those Saturday fligths to North Island disappeared. If they didn't, Roger Curry should have been on it with you.... I gave up after my plan A of Jacksonville up to Norfolk on to Whidbey-San Diego got totally messed up by weather everywhere. I then flew back to Jax so I could drive up to CHS to hook up with you guys for plan B to March... Roger showed up there too... Well you know that story... My kids would have thought I was a complete basket case if I tried a third trip back to Jax, so I just scrapped the whole mission... Like I said, on yesterday's post the 170 seats to CA were no longer listed.. Hope you made it and had some fun... |

Well, the South Carolinians won't make it to the Friday gathering but are still hoping to make it to the Saturday afternoon activities. Our flight from Charleston to March today was cancelled so we won't be able to make the March to Hickam flight tomorrow morning. We are now moving on to Plan B - from Jacksonville, to N.I. to Hickam on Saturday. Hope to see you on Saturday. Angie |

After a dearth of flights and backlog of passengers that want to go to Hawaii, things seem to be easing up quite a bit. I hope to be arriving on Friday in time for the meetup. Can anyone give me advise on where to stay and when to call? I called the HK yesterday and they had rooms available but they were non-refundable if I canceled, plus in the neighborhood of $150 per night. Also called Pearl and was advised that "as of now we are solidly booked but you should call back on Friday." TIA Roger in Jacksonville, FL |

Scratch my name from the list of attendees. I was fortunate enough to get one of the 8 Space-A seats offered on a C17 to Christchurch, NZ Friday night. About 15 people showed up for the roll call; only 2 CAT IIIs. Very heavily loaded plane with pallets & duty PAX. Room on the floor for mats was at a premium. I'm on Day 4 of a 9-day Magic Bus tour of the NOrth Island. |

Unfortunately, Tom and I will NOT be at the BFB gathering this year -- he feels we have to stay home to check on winter weather drainage around the foundation of our house... So we'll just temporarily turn up the furnace and hoist a Mai Tai to everyone who IS there -- hope you have a great time! |

I am getting so excited about my fist ever space A and my first time to Hawaii. Husband is retirred CWO3 and was there years ago ( many years and before me)... and knows it will be all different. I am pretty much planning this new adventure and have been reading blogs, pepperd, etc for almost a year now. We will be at Travis trying to get a hop to Hawaii on Jan 29,30, etc we also have Hale Kao reservation for Feb 1-6..so if we get there early we will definetly go to the Barefoot and check it out. Any advise is most welcomed and we will have out red bandana with us at all time... Brenda and Len |

"Is this still the planned dates for the BFB? 29-31 Jan???" YES. "Is there someone spearheading this group meeting?" Not officially, as of yet. I helped get the ball rolling for the BFB but since my odds of making it back from the P.I. by the 29th are only 50/50 I can't spearhead the meeting. Maybe someone who has confirmed commercial tickets as well as confirmed Hale Koa reservations??? Or one of the SPATs living on the Island? That way, we know the co-ordinator will actually BE there, as opposed to being stuck in some PAX terminal across the pond awaiting a flight to HIK. |

Responding to Roger: The 19 and 20 buses go from the airport to the bus stop serving Hale Koa and Hilton Hawaiian Village. Takes about an hour and a half. Make sure the lighted sign on the front of the bus says "Waikiki-Hotels". If in doubt, ask the driver. Be advised that large bags will not be welcomed on the bus. If your bag will fit on your lap or under the seat, you might get on. It depends on the driver. Taxi from airport to Waikiki is about $40. The "Circle Island" bus is either the 52 or 55. They both can be boarded at Ala Moana Center, the large mall just outside Waikiki. More info can be obtained at www.thebus.org |

Just a reminder that the 5th annual winter get together for military Space A travellers is set for January 29-31 at the Barefoot Bar, behind the Hale Koa in Waikiki. Is this still the planned dates for the BFB? |

Hey Mike, How many of us can you put up at your house? Just kidding... thanks for your offer. I have been there a couple of times, but am always interested in other folks ideas. I was stationed there in the late sixties on Hercules Missile sites. I also visited again in March of '05. So much had changed that it was all new to me. Hope to see you in January. |

How about this? Those of us who live on Oahu and are willing to do so, volunteer to give advice, opinion, help, to all of you who are new to Hawaii. I have a list of things to do, places to eat, etc. based on my "unbiased" opinion as a 6 year resident of Oahu. My personal interests are WW II, Hiking, birds, geology, people watching, helping folks understand theBus, and giving my opinions on anything. I'm the pepperd.com poster for Hickam so I have some thoughts on space-a travel also. As impressive as this may sound, I'm still a newby compared to folks who have been here much longer than I have. Since I live near the BFB, I'll stop by in the evenings to meet you all. I'm the extremely good looking, mature, bald man in glasses. |

Okay, just for interest, If a person decided to head for the BFB, and they were going to travel commercial from the States to Hawaii, where does one go to? I haven't been there before, so wouldn't know where to head to, (in case a person decided to go) I have looked for flights, but didn't know which airport to head for in Hawaii. |
