Me too...this is the error message I get when trying to post a new message in the General Forum: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@pepperd.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/2.0.63 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.63 OpenSSL/0.9.7a mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.4.7 Server at www.pepperd.com Port 80 |

Aaaarrrrgh.. just got it again, after many trouble-free months: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/2.0.63 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.63 OpenSSL/0.9.7a mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.4.7 Server at www.pepperd.com Port 80 I was trying to post something I had copied from a newspaper website -- in case giving that info helps whoever is trying to "cure" the software of this bad habit? |

David, Wanda, Roger and Gene, I've occasionally been locked out by that mysterious message (but not lately, so perhaps some updating 'repair work' has been done on the software? [knock on wood]) -- at times when I had done none of the things you think might have caused your problem. I'm afraid it may be just one of those eternal mysteries... |

I think the problem was that I did a copy of my post prior to pushing the preview/postMessage button. When I pushed that button I got the error message. I started over and posted a message without trying to copy it and it worked OK. Also, it did not work after pasting a comment in. Must be some glitch in the software that prohibits trying to copy a preliminary post or pasting in a comment. |

This evening I am having the same problem Gene Williams noted in his post. Frustrating. How, did you get it fixed? David |

Thanks for the replies. Wanda: Since my set of circumstances was different from yours - I didn't think your problem and solution applied to what I'd experienced. In the most recent incident, I wrote my note in the "add your message here" box. The whole note was less than 20 lines long. i.e. I didn't write the message with another editor and then copy / paste. Total time to write? Can't really say. However, I did take an extra minute or so to check my facts using another browser. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. At least now I know others are having the problem, it isn't likely to be on on my end. Guess I'll just live with it. (Like the forum's server clock thing.) Sometimes it may be a good thing for the cyber gods to monitor/edit/delete what I write. Maybe if enough of us report the "404" Dirk will ask whoever he's renting the web space from to examine the server's logs and come up with a fix. Gene W |

Gene, if you note all the postings in this part of pepperd.com, you will note this is not a new problem. I had the same problem several months ago when I was trying to post my Saipan trip reports - which were quite lengthy. I truely think the problem might be when we write our reports off line (of pepperd.com) and then do cut and paste. Several things about that which I really don't know what the real answer is. Is it: 1) too long 2) the software we used to input our report offline 3) -----whatever. After several assists from several posters, I did find that saving the file as RTF seemed to give me the least trouble. Another answer for me was to just post info in the same thread in parts so that no single posting was extremely long. Hope this might help you in your frustrations. Ciao/Wanda |

Hi, Gene, I can't help you with the server error problem, but having had the same type of experience, I will now highlight my message text and save it to the clipboard before hitting the Preview/Post Message button. Composing in Notepad is also a safe way to avoid the potential loss of your post. It doesn't happen often but I do hope the problem gets resolved. Roger in Jacksonville, FL |

Periodically, I'm getting the following "404 alert" when trying to post a response on a thread: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Apache/2.0.63 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.63 OpenSSL/0.9.7a mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.4.7 Server at www.pepperd.com Port 80 I can't figure out if the problem is on my end, my ISP (Comcast), or Dirk's server. It most often happens after I've spent a little time carefully crafting a longish and erudite note. Then my scribblings are lost forever when I try to work out the problem (whatever that is) Any bright ideas? Gene |
