The offsite polling process requires several scripts to run in the background when we initially visit the homepage, and those scripts are wreaking havoc. It's discouraging, but I tolerate it because I want the good information I know I can find here. New visitors may not be as patient. |

I did an experiment: pepperd.com was not opening beyond the navigation bar at top and the advertisement using IE8. I tried Google Chrome and it opened right up. Coming in the back door works with IE8 (using the Tree view) but most people would not know to try that. I didn't until the recent post on this topic. I doubt that I am unusual in having this issue since IE8 is a very popular browser. I have a feeling that the site is losing viewers or participants because they can't get on or get tired of waiting a long time for the site to come up. Dirk, if it is not too much trouble, can you un-do the poll changes and see if that restores the site to its previous functionality? Roger in Jacksonville, FL |

Roger (and others) I reported a day or two ago in the Off Topic forum thread about the new poll that it was taking up to 20 seconds for the website's main page to load on my high powered desktop computer with FiOS -- I would get everything enclosed in the box at the top along with the name of the site, plus whatever ad was running, but then just have to sit and sit and sit waiting for the rest of the page to arrive. I suspect this is what you are seeing, and you just need to wait patiently until it all loads. In the past day or so I have had that problem only intermittently, and I do not know why -- I do exactly the same keystrokes every time! Sometimes everything behaves the way it should, and other times that main page is still taking forever to finish loading. Inasmuch as this all began with the new poll format, I am inclined to blame it, or some change associated with installing it. |

Roger, It's not anything to do with the amount of usage the webhost can provide. It may take some a bit longer because I have moved the poll to a web based solution vs. the previous open source poll that was running on the same server. Beside the new poll seems to look bit better anyway. It sounds like a problem with the browser to me..... |

Several times over the last couple of days the website does not fully open. Just the top banner and navigation bars and the word "done". Refreshing the page gets the same thing as well as resending the bookmarked URL. I am wondering if this is an indication of more usage than the webhost can provide. Any changes recently that may be causing this? Roger in Jacksonville, FL |
