John D,

Thanks.... you got it just like I wanted. And I realized after posting it that those html formatting things wouldn't work in an attachment. I think as you did, I could probably have corrected it after I posted it here as well using the tools in the Word program.

Now if I remember all this for next time around, it'll be great...

Again, thanks a bunch...

Success! Glad you were able to figure it out and post the attachment.

Regarding your other comments:

Yes, you could try posting a smaller version every day or so (just put it all as separate entries under the 1-3 threads). Somehow I don't think length is a problem - I think it's some invisible characters - can't explain it as I don't know the technical aspects of the board's software).

The little box with the .rtf file name in it is fine. The only other thing you could have done was:
1. Added a sentence or two to your post to tell folks to click on the icon (if you're worried that some folks won't know how to open the file).
2. Added a description for your attachment - the box to type that in was in the upload window.

When you clicked on my "test" attachment it said 'test upload' - that was the test included in my uploaded attachment. The text of the document is not supposed to show up in the attachment box - just the file icon and file name (document.rtf)

I don't know what you mean when you said "Dirk's html formatting are just now in plain text." Do you mean you tried to use the codes from Dirk's board to make things bold (for example) inside the Word Document? If so, that's not the way to do it. You need to use the menu tools inside of Word itself to format the text (realize that some formatting may be lost when you save as an rtf file).

I took the liberty of fixing the formatting that I think you wanted (underline and Blue txt) and re-posted it. Let me know if you want it removed or not.

Hope that helps - the main thing is you got your report up and you learned a little more about technology!

And also..... now I see that being that it is an attachment, things I had done with Dirk's html formatting are just now in plaintext, instead of how they should be displayed had it been typed in a normal fashion...

I guess next year, I will post a daily report for 30 days so I don't have to fight with the technological aspect of this board...

Well John D,

I got it posted..... kind of.... If you go look all you see is the little box with the .rtf file name in it.... What did I do wrong so the printed report didn't show like it should?

I'm glad I didn't title it with some profanity as I was trying again for a 2nd and 3rd time trying to figure out what the bleep was going on...

And I still don't understand why it wouldn't take when typed manually....

Thanks for the help tho.... I guess I got it on there.... if now others know to click on the attachment icon.... I see when I clicked on yours it said 'test upload'.... Why didn't that show in the box we see?

Anywho....

Jack,

I can't help with the problem but upload a word document should work if its under the size limit (80k I think but you'll get an eror message if it's too big). Sounds like you didn't follow all the way through - if you did you would see an Icon after submission like the one below:

application/msword
Document.rtf (0.2 k)

I suggest saving your Word doc as an RTF format so more folks can read it.

I can't say how TOTALLY P****D I am... I have been trying to post my return portion of my trip report for I don't know how long now... I get the same dumb error report as reported by Danny below....

I have tried to copy and paste my report from my Yahoo! draft mail folder.... I get the error report.

I have tried to upload a word document from my laptop and all I get on that is the tag line that it says it will attach at the end of the report when done that way...

And tonite, I HAND TYPED THE WHOLE DANG THING into the trip report compose box, and once again got the stupid error report.

I can't think of anyway that it is gonna go, if I can't even type it in manually....

I quit!!!

Danny,

I assume you're trying to cut-n-past from some other text or word doc and it looks like (for some reason) the software has a reaction sometimes.

If you send me your text I can place in an rtf or pdf doc and try to load it up (sent you an email).

For some reason, I cannot post a trip report. First, I tried to post the entire text, but getting the error message I thought perhaps it was too long for one posting, so I cut it into 3 parts and tried again to post the shortened text of Part 1. Still not able to post. What's up?
