Team, I figured it out. Not sure why about 5% of people are not getting their email confirmation. I'm going in there tonight and fixing people. Sorry for the trouble. |

Me too, Tonya, as also reported by several others. I seem to have succeeded in registering and logging on, but the only forums available are cruises and single travelers. Hope it has a cure and that Dirk finds a way to communicate the trick to us, if the trick requires action on our part! |

I have read the FAQ on the new board and nothing seems to address the fact that the only forums I can see are Cruises and single travelers, i can also see the blogs but even in the quick navigation pull down etc I have no other forums available to view, if I search for a base such as Travis, which should show up in the flight schedule forum- I get no results besides those in the blogs. |

Folks, If you are able to post on the new forum then please use that venue to ask questions and resolve issues. Also, please don't ask the same questions about the new forum in BOTH forums - it's redundant and inefficient. |

"so far I do not see any asterisks by other peoples' names." Then one might assume that others can't see you or your asterisk (but I don't know for sure). Please take some time to review the fairly extensive FAQ for the board at http://www.pepperd.com/vb/faq.php Without doing more research (which takes time) I can't answer everyone's individual questions (especially with nearly 2,000 members) so please check the FAQ. It may answer some/all of your questions such as viewing mode choices (you have three choices and it explains them). I suggest grasping the basics first and then worry about the "advanced" features. If something doesn't work then post it in the thread established for reporting problems on the new board (not here). |

Thank you John D. (and others) for the explanation that when I see the asterisk it is visible only to me. In response to your question, so far I do not see any asterisks by other peoples' names. Now here's another problem -- apparently the software will not allow me to read posts in the "Hybrid" mode (that allows lines of text to stretch across the entire space reserved for messages) AND also see "newest first". The only choice with "newest first" is the "linear" mode (that chops all posts into lines of not more than about 23 characters, causing those short lines to run waaaaay down the page in many cases and thus makes reading them rather a chore). It's difficult for me to decide which is more important -- readability, or quick and easy access to the most recent! Is there any way to allow us to choose the "hybrid" mode PLUS "newest first" so that our experience is *somewhat* more like what we've had for the past 4 years via this Soon-To-Be-Abandoned software? (More things on my problem/wish-list: -The ability to "preview" a "reply" before posting does not exist. The preview function is available for original posts, but not when one clicks on the "reply" arrow. Without it for replies, we're going to see a lot more typos, I think! -And what is "go to advanced" supposed to mean, besides that you'll get the dreaded 404 Error Message, as I did last evening when exploring the new software in an effort to figure out some of its options? -And if we do try being "advanced" and instead get the error message, could the software please take us "back" to what we just laboriously wrote, instead of wiping it out and requiring a fresh start?) BTW, I -- like just about all users -- made the transition to this S-T-B-A software without any problem but this one is proving more difficult, perhaps because it is so filled with assorted different variables? |

Well, just call me a knucklehead. My problem was that I was not logging in. It works OK when I do. Thanks, Rebecca, for helping me to shake the cobwebs from my mind. |

Roy and Henry, I had the same problem. I found that after logging in, be sure to click on "Forum" again. Solved the problem for me. Good luck. |

Cherry C, "P.S. What's the meaning of the asterisk after my name? (Is that supposedly rendering me invisible so that only the pure in heart can see my name?" The round dot next to your name shows when you are online or not. If it is green you are online, I just check it on the new board with other posters. |

Roy and Henry, that's one for Dirk as it's beyond my moderator capability to troubleshoot. Cherry, The ability for members to report their problems was not dropped. There "IS" a place on the new forum to report problems - it's a Sticky Thread at the top (not "hiding" anywhere) of the Off Topic Forum (your posting in the General Space-A Forum has been moved there. I believe the asterisk after your name indicates that you have invisible mode on - I suspect you can see your own asterisk but others can't see your name (explains why you are still seeing it). Do you see other asterisks next to names? If so, then I guess there is a glitch in the invisible mode function. To me it's kind of pointless for regular members because as soon as you post you've revealed yourself. Just because your name shows as being "online" doesn't mean you are really online - it means your logged in but you could be in another room watching TV etc.... I guess I miss the huge benefit of being "invisible." Since it's causing so much controversy perhaps Dirk should remove that option (if possible). |

Several days back I clicked on "invisible." Just checked and it is still "on" for invisibility. THEN WHY IS MY NAME STILL SHOWING UP IN ANY FORUM I VISIT? AND IN THE GENERAL SUMMARY OF WHO IS CURRENTLY ON THE SITE? P.S. What's the meaning of the asterisk after my name? (Is that supposedly rendering me invisible so that only the pure in heart can see my name?) P.P.S. I'm posting this here because I see NO PLACE on the new forum to report problems! Is there one hiding somewhere that I just can't find, or did that ability of members to report their problems get dropped on purpose? |

I have the same problem that Henry reports. I composed a message to that effect but apparently I previewed but didn't post it, since I can't find it anywhere. Anyway, I am looking forward to any advice as to how to fix this. |

John- Yesterday I registered in the new forum and got the e-mail acknowleging same. I went to new site, logged in, and was able to access all the forums. Today I logged into new site, checked remember me,and was able to only access the Cruise and Solo Travelers forums. Others have reported the same problem. I think you still have a glitch to work out! |

Linda, I think you might not be signed in. When I come to the site I see those two categories like you said. Then you go to the top right hand corner and log in in the space where it says log in and password. Try again. |

Thanks John, I followed the "cheat sheet" but I can still only see the last two categories. I even tried to post to one of them, but it said I do not have access? I can still post to the "old" forum, but I really would like to join the rest of the "gang" in the new forum. |

Jack said, "If I get into this old version, I should be able to get into the new one....." Not correct Jack. They are two completely different sites and you need to register a new account on the new site (per Dirk's original announcement). |

I don't think you can change the userid after you have registered. You'll need to create a new account with the userid you want (you'll may need to delete the old one first). |

I'm getting really irritated with the new site.... It will not accept my ID and password even tho I have gone thru the 'forgot my whatever' and resubmitted and gotten a temp p/w and then changed it again.... Tried to move my schedule posts to the new site again and got the same baloney as last nite..... If I get into this old version, I should be able to get into the new one..... |

You should be able to chose Paul B as your username when you do the initial registration (unless already taken). Also, see the suggestions for changing to linear mode and removing the adverts from the right side (double chevrons) discussed in the "test of the thread order" in the new Off Topic Forum. |

How does one change their user name, I have been using Paul B. for many years and would like to continue using it? On the old flight schedule format if the flight was continuing on to another base everything was on one line, now it isn't, how to change it? |

Dinotars, Got it. What I meant though was I was able to review flight schedules without logging in on the new system. On this (current/legacy/old) system you need to be logged in to view schedules. That's why I was concerned. Have a great weekend! Dan |

On new site, make sure you read Dirk's tip about changing settings to see newest post first. Default is oldest post, which makes it confusing. |

Dirk, As a flight poster do we start a new thread for each day we post the flight schedule? I didn't see any other way to do it. On our present board, we post in the same post daily for the whole month. Thanks. greengal (Carole G) |

Dirk: Where do you want us to post concerning observations/suggestions for the new site? For example, I just posted Fairchild for a second day on the Flight Schedule Forum. I note that the thread leaves the original posting in position one and posts the second in position two. That's ok for two, but we will be posting up to 31 posts (one each day of the month) in the Flight Schedules area. Is there some way to make the default posting be latest posting at top of thread as it is on this, the original site? Thanks, John |
