Please be aware that McCord is not a Spat friendly base. The Pax Reps and the USO are good but the base is big and spread out. It is a long hike to lodging and if you get a room it may be a couple of more miles hike. Considering the good chance that it will be raining or blowing makes it tough. The terminal is not open all night. I believe it is closed 2100-0500 except for scheduled flights. There is no on base car rental and the exchange/commisary conplex is at least a couple of miles. The USO is one of or the best we have visited. The staff is friendly and helpful and they have food. They will make you a fresh sandwich if you want. Spats need to help Spats at this base.

Leland, you are right about the increase in flights from Charleston to McChord. We are in constant watch of these flights since we live in S. C. and have a daughter and family in Oregon. They have actually had a lot of flights from Charleston to McChord for at least a month. We were planning a trip out the second week in April so I kept a log of flights from Charleston to McChord starting in the middle of March and observed that they had 4 or 5 flights a week during that time. We were able to get the first flight we tried for on April 8, with frequent flights shown for days before that. We made the flight with about 10 other passengers. I sure hope this continues because this makes it very easy for us to get out to see our grandchildren as they grow up.

We were wondering why so many flights were suddenly appearing. In the past, we would have to travel to Andrews or McGuire to get to McChord. Thanks for clearing it up.
Angie

Just thought I would mention an observation I made recently. Until about a week ago the most common routing to the US out of Spangdahlem was to McGuire and then McChord. In the last week that has changed to Charleston to McChord.

The flight recordings at Spang are possibly the least reliable in the USAF, mostly because they are an overflow base rather than a regular AMC base, but the overall routings should be correct.

So if you are looking to get to McChord make sure you check Charleston, as they seem to be getting the traffic now, rather than McGuire. Of course, this could change on very short notice.
