Made it back to Italy even with an hour and a half delay in Florida, a half hour delay in ATL and with a cranky toddler! I was very nervous about BWI but as it turns out I was pretty confident with the layout once I got there just from my brief previous experience landing there with the AVB-BWI flight and flying out the next day. This completed my first Space A trip, no complaints, never felt safer on a flight, and for appx $80 roundtrip for 2 people, you can't beat it. Extremely thankful that this is available! Good luck to everyone!

Marryanne,

You could also check with the airline to see if there's an earlier flight to BWI. Depending on the airline, if there's an earlier flight and you can get on it "space-a" they usually don't charge you. If they try charging you, you can explain the situation to them and being a military dependent with a child they might take that into consideration. So I think everyone has given you very good alternatives to deal with the situation.

Best luck to you on your trip and happy travel!

Marry Anne,

I would consider this. You know what time showtime is, if you are cutting it close leave your bags at the baggage claim and check in for the Space-A flight. After you are marked present go back and claim your bag. Who knows, you might run across someone you know from AVB and they might offer to help you either by watching the baby or giving you a hand with the bag. If you arrive in BWI with time then get your bags like normal. Another option might be to get the guy with the baggage cart to help you claim your bags and walk you to the SPace-A gate, it might cost you a few bucks in a tip but it will relieve your mind of the burden. Good luck and I hope it works out great.

Unless it is really busy, it should be doable with a little time to spare. My concern would be a delay from Atlanta. That's where you could have a problem. At least you have been to BWI and know your way around. That is a big plus.

Thanks..I understand there are a lot of variables that come into play...especially with Space A...just looking for others that have traveled through BWI in a similar fashion!

Nobody can accurately predict whether your ATL-BWI flight will arrive on time at BWI...how long it'll take the airline to process your checked luggage onto the carousel (which is located outside the secured terminal areas)...how quickly you can then get back through BWI security...and how cooperative your toddler will act as you try to hurry through each of those potential issues to get to the Space-A counter. 1 hour and 45 minutes is a lot of time, and if I were in your position, I'd take my chances and check my bags...but I'm a gambler. You're the only person who can decide whether all that trouble is worth the risk of missing Space-A roll call.

Experienced SPAT's...I have made my first half of my first space A trip (AVB-BWI) and soon I will be making the return trip (BWI to AVB)...My question is I will be arriving at BWI via commercial airline from ATL appx 1 hour and 45 minutes before the showtime for the flight I would like to take back to AVB...I am worried about claiming my baggage and getting to the Space A terminal in time to be marked present for the BWI-AVB flight. I am entertaining the option of sending my luggage back to AVB via USPS...so that this is not a concern, however, I will be traveling with a toddler and shoving everything into 2 carryons isn't ideal, just in case we don't make the flight to AVB. So I guess my question is do you all think that 1 hour and 45 minutes will be enough time to get claimed baggage and get to the Space A terminal in time to be marked present? Keeping in mind that I am going through ATL aka hell! Thanks all!
