Wibke,

If you are Ft Campbell, a trip to base operations may help you gather needed information. I would go after regular duty hours so that the passenger rep will have time to help you and not just answer the questions you pose. You have many options-You may want to look at Wright Patt AFB also. 5 hours from Clarksville/Hopkinsville and a weekly flight to Germany-the benefit is that you can be manifested all the way thru. The scheduled return to Wright Patt is every other Wednesday out of Rota, Spain. Good luck! Air Assault!!

Thank you so much. Just one more question ;-)
Is there long term parking possible? We would travel home and stay for about 1 month!

Do a lot of ppl try to fly out of Jackson? We plan on flying 1 or 2 week in december.

It depends. My last flight went directly from Jackson to Ramstein. At that time, the flight normally stopped at Andrews AFB, but there was no cargo or passengers to pick up in Andrews so Jackson elected to overfly. The current pattern has them stopping at Andrews and/or McGuire, Charleston or Dover depending on the particular flight. The same would be true for the flights from Memphis and Knoxville.

Do they fly straight to germany or do they stop somewhere? If they stop do we have to get out of the plane? I ask because my kids are 4, 2 1/2 and 3 months!

I live in Nashville. My preferred method of getting to Germany is with the MS ANG in Jackson. They go out of their way to be helpful to Space A travelers. From Clarksville, you are looking at about a 7 to 7 1/2 hour drive to Jackson. They fly C-17s and the aircraft have been extremely reliable. Another option for you would be the TN ANG with C-5 flights from Memphis or KC-135 from Knoxville, although those flights are not as frequent as the flights from Jackson. I will be attempting to get to Germany next week from Jackson. If successful, this will be my fifth time to fly with them.

Wibke, Are you flying Space-A or flying via commercial airlines?

If commercially, the short answer would be to fly out of Nashville. I believe that is the nearest major city to Clarksville.

If you are eligible to fly unaccompanied Space-A, I would suggest driving down to Jackson, MS to try for seats to Germany with the ANG at Jackson.

Scott AFB, IL is not terribly far, either, but you would fly from Scott to some other base that has flights going overseas, like Andrews AFB, MD.

I'm sure some more knowledgeable member of this message board can tell you what it takes to be eligible to fly Space-A unaccompanied. I cannot.

Our family is stationed in Ft Campbell KY (Clarksville, TN) and I plan on flying to germany in dec (hubby is going to be deployed).

Can somebody tell me what would be the best airport to fly out of? I dont really wanna drive over 10h so a close one would be great.

Thank you for all your answers.
