Yes, most definitely - please post the details and authorizing reference so I can update the FAQ. |

I would also be curious to find out what documentation you will need to have to show to the passenger terminal reps to show that you are authorized. There is a letter for family members of deployed military members, will you need a similar letter? I would imagine so since it is a confusing issue. |

I'd have him get a copy of info the pax rep there found and send it to yo to carry with you as you might not run into a knowledgeable rep when you try to fly. |

Kristen: Very happy to hear that you are authorized spacea unaccompanied. It would be very helpful for many readers of this site if you could quote chapter and verse (ie where the rest of us might find this authorization in print) so that others might avail themselves of this privilage. It is always helpful to have the regs/reference so that correct info might be passed on in the future (at a minimum, I'm sure JohnD would like the info to post on JohnD's SpaceA Pages as an addition to the FAQs. Happy travels, John |

He came home today after going to the terminal and we are authorized! They found the right info. I am so glad that someone who has worked there a while was available. Thanks for all of the input, I appreciate all of your assistance |

AS a pax rep from what is briefly mentioned I agree with the others and see no entitlement. It is possible for a DOD civilian to be deployed however there is no provision to let civilian dependents fly at any time unaccompanied. Civilians living and stationed in an overseas remote area do have Environmental Morale Leave but this does pertain to you. One other note the flights to Europe are far from empty. Be safe! |

Kristen, if you go to any military base you will find large numbers of civilians who get paid by the services. Ft Myer, for instance, has plumbers, electricians, road maintenance crews, data entry clerks, IT workers, etc, who are paid by the Army. That does not make them members of the military. The key to all military benefits is the DEERS system. If your husband is in there as AD military, then he gets those benefits. If he is in there as a retiree, that determines his benefits. DEERS defines his status, and hence, benefits. |

He is 'owned' by the USAF, paid by Langley, his home office is Langley, deployments are done there. He will find his SF 86 or 85 or whatever then I will let you know. All his funds come from Langley. His supervisors are not on base, they all go through the Langley chain of command. |

Kristen Sounds like whoever is providing you info is confusing this with unaccompanied dependent travel for deployed military members (not civilians). See the relevant Spacea.net FAQ article. |

We can travel accompanied by him Space A, that is for sure, but I am being told that when he deploys we can travel (only during that deployment) unaccompanied. I will find out more, I was told of this forum and figured after my research I could ask if I did not find it. Thank you for your polite responses |

Kristen: Do you really know what your husband status is? If he retired from the AF and is now a USAF Employee, he must also be a DOD employee. What type of ID Card do you have? We know you have a retired dependent ID card. Do you also have a ID card for his civilian status? Recommend you call or e-mail your husband and have him clear up what status he is in. I doubt if you are authorized dependent travel like the military personnel dependent who are authorized space A travel. Happy Travels. |

Kristen, If dependents of deployed DoD employees are authorised to travel Space-A unaccompanied then it's news to me. Which section of DoD 4515.13-R (I presume that's what you are referring to as 45-13R?) shows that dependents of civilians deployed to Afghanistan are authorized Space-A travel? |

My husband retired after 20+ years. He is now a USAF employee. We PCSd to Germany on orders, paid by the military. He gets a paycheck from the USAF. he is NOT a contractor nor a DoD civilian employee alone, he is a USAF employee, we are sponsored here at the base we have all the same priv's here that we had active duty....... Our son and I can travel Space A as retirees, but only with him, our sponsor I have been told several times that in the 45-13R it shows that if he is DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN as a USAF employee, base sponsored, PCS'd here via their expense, etc.......that we can fly Space A for that, at a low category I am sure I don't care if it is categor XXVIII -- the planes leave here empty all the time Can someone tell me where I find the information that pertains to this so that I can go to the terminal and present it? thank you so much for your time on this I have searched high and low, and I know it must be somewhere in that section where it talks about categories but I guess the lingo is hard for me to interpret I also asked at the terminal, 2 of the 3 said we can, but 1 said no. They are all new. I don't want to annoy the crap out of them anymore, but if I find it in the reg, I can take it in with me, yes? |
