We rent from Budget with a USAA or AAA discount and usually cost around $80-$100 for the day; plus gas...

Jackson, MS to San Antonio, TX is a 640 miles/10 hr drive. You should be able to do it in 1 day/24 hrs rental.

During the past few months Kelly AFB (San Antinio) has had 2 flights per month (2 weeks apart) to the East Coast & Ramstein. Call Kelly to check their current return routing. That would be you most direct way.

Otherwise head to the East Coast; then catch the 3x per week Andrews to Jackson, MS flights; then drive a one way car rental from Jackson, MS to San Antonio. This is how we get from Ramstein to Dallas (frequently) via Jackson.

Nina,

Also, please keep in mind that if you're a Cat-V you'll be unable to avail of any of the Space-A hops within CONUS unless the mission is to/from overseas. If you are a Cat-VI or sponsor is deployed then you'll be fine.

Bear in mind that a lot of the flights between bases within CONUS are via the small "executive jet" aircraft that have a limit of 30 lbs. per person for baggage, and can have few seats (so they are not necessarily good to aim for if you are part of a family group).

Don't forget the Navy's flights into Fort Worth.

From an experience I had last spring:
Kelly C-5 that had mission to Iraq returned to Kelly via Rota Spain (for refueling) rather than Ramstein. From Rota it was direct to Kelly.

I caught the flight at Rota - which was "right-on" since I was in Rota and live in San Antonio.

Ciao/Wanda
