I use Google Earth constantly in my travels coupled with my GPS device. Space-A is very fluid as is my travel plans so I have to agree with Danny in that I don't see any value to this program for me though others may disagree.

I merged the whole world bases map leland made with mine. I'll undertake the unnecessary job of making routes between bases. I wanted to do this because it is easier to look at a map and decide connecting flights rather than trying to figure out whether one airport has flights to another.

I wanted to make a map of the world that showed where the bases were and which ones flew to which. I suppose this was a little bit of a "spend three hours on something that really has little practical use." Oh well. I had fun making it. I'll probably mess around with it a bit more.

I had no problem opening the file. I saved the zipped file, extracted the doc.kml file and opened it just by double-clicking on it. My Goodle Earth program opened up and I was able to navigate to several areas pinpointed by this file.

I, too, see little value in this project. If one has Google Earth installed on their computer and gets the GPS lats & lons that Leland has put together for us, what more do you need?

I also think the locations of the pax terms, main gates and billeting offices of the various military installations are far more useful than just the locations of the flightlines on the bases.

The route lines are unnecessary, IMHO.

Thank you anyway for your work and for trying to provide another helpful tool for SPATS, Andrew.

I think what Andrew has offered here has promise. Of course, there's already a Google Map link found at the top of the page that has almost all the Space-A locations posted with some pertinent phone numbers embedded for each site. Google Earth provides very rich content in references(hotels, shopping, restaurants, images, etc...) of local areas around Space A sites which could be helpful to SPATS. I agree that the route lines will probably end up being detracting and confusing at a macro level and really don't provide any useful information. Also, the destinations shown at each Space-A location(flight schedule) listed will change daily. That's a big commitment to keep up to date, but could be used in lieu of or as an addendum to the current method if the flight schedule posters were willing and able to access the file Andrew has constructed. It would be a helpful, at a glance reference, but would take some extra effort to keep it current.

Thanks TR,
Thanks for the hints!!

Got it open but I am not sure how. I run Windows XP and Firefox and some combination of "popups" worked.

I think that I may still be missing something unless there is much more info in the future and someway to link to current info. Eventually there will just be a bunch of lines on the map.

I opened it on my PC, but had to pull thru the Google Earth plug in and extract it as a zip file in order to see it. I attempted to open it via my i-phone but Safari can't open it.

Hey Andrew,

Probably a good idea but I really have no idea what you are doing.

Can you write some description of the purpose, how this would work and what it will contain?

I was not able to open your file from your message 2.

Here is version 1.1. Anyone who wants to update it please do. I have no idea how to put html in the description so it would show current flights. If someone does, please update it. Also if you decide to upgrade the file please follow the same setup that I did. Thank you and I hope this is a useful tool for others.

I was wondering if anyone knows a bit about Google Earth, it would be a good idea to make a world wide Space A routes map. Maybe update the links so if you clicked on an airport it would show where it linked to the thread with flight info. I am going to start with a basic of only some of the bases. I hope this catches on.
