Assuming from another of your posts that you might want to try to fly out of Spangdahlem (instead of Ramstein) to the US, I can recommend Spangdahlem (no guarantee, though, as always with Space-A). My husband and I flew from Charleston to Ramstein on April 9 and returned from Spangdahlem to Charleston on April 30. There were hardly any PAX in Spangdahlem. We did not make it out the first day because the C-17 we had boarding passes for had technical problems that could not be fixed the same day. But we made it out on the next flight the following day. On April 29 we were 4 PAX in total, including my husband and I, on April 30 we were 3 PAX, including us. The Pax representatives at the terminal were very helpful and told us that normally there is very little competition for seats at Spangdahlem. I do not know how it is during vacation time, though. The hotel on base was $39 for both of us. Please see http://www.pepperd.com/spacea/messages/989/663069.html?1273412890 in the Ground Transportation section of this forum on how to get to Spangdahlem. Flying back from Charleston to Germany I would take the first flight I could get on, no matter if it is Ramstein or Spangdahlem. The key is getting back to Germany. |

Cargo flights usually don't have a pattern, except for the weekly (mid week) Cargo flight from Norfolk to RotaRON & Sigonella and returns 5-6 days later. Some weekly Cargo flights to Ramstein after going down range return through Spain back to their home station. Ramstein has predictable Patriot flights to BWI, and you can pick up or they will show you the schedule at Ramstein. Flights change weekly to BWI, but are known the last week the month prior. If you need to be in Charleston by a certain date (guess you are traveling on Leave, Cat 3) then look for a flight 2-3 days before you need to be back. If no flight direct to Charleston, head to the East Coast and drive a one way rental to Charleston. |

Going back you just want to get to Germany. What ever base in Germany that has a flight with seats available, is the flight to take. You can get from Ramstein to Spangdalem pretty easily. Good luck! |

As mentioned in a different thread, am thinking about a trip from Ramstein to Charleston. Reading here, I see that it may be easier to get from Spang to Charleston then RMS. The question is how do I get back? Is there really only one run a week from CHS back to Spang or should I hop to some intermediate location? |
