Just to throw in my knowledge of the medivac system... To add to Cherry's comments, when the medivac flight from Andrews arrives at Scott, some patients are immediately transferred to awaiting aircraft to take them to their final destination. This is usually their home base (i.e. Ft Campbell, Ft Hood, Ft Carson, Ft Riley, etc). Those patients that must remain at Scott to catch a flight the next day do stay overnight at the 375th Aeromedical Staging Facility (ASF). The ASF is staffed to provide 24-hour medical care for those patients in the medivac system who must remaining overnight. Also, the increased use of the TRICARE network supported the Air Force-wide downsizing of military hospitals. That led to the 2005 BRAC recommendation to convert the Scott AFB Medical Center into a clinic. This move eliminated inpatient medical services at Scott. At present, the Scott clinic has NO inpatient care, only outpatient clinics. _ |

William e, we're very glad you recovered! Your experience is still the standard today -- it appears to be a well-organized operation. At the interim stops they meet the medevacs with buses, both for the ambulatory folks and others fitted for stretchers, that then transport the patients either to an ongoing flight that same day to another location, or to the base hospital for care there or until ready to be transferred again. |

I realize that what I am about to relate was many (many) years ago but I thought that it may be of interest. In 1970, I was med-evac'd from Vietnam to Guam with a refueling stop at Clark. I was hospitalized in Guam for about one week. I was then med-evac'd from Guam to Wright-Pat. The flight to Wright-Pat stopped at Scott where I spent one night at their hospital. The flight from Guam to Scott was on a C-141. The flight from Scott to Wright-Pat was a C-9. I have no idea what kind of facility Scott had at that time as I was carried into it on a stretcher and transferred to a bed and then from the bed back to the plane on a stretcher. |

When you are selected for the flight ask where you and manifested to go.You can decide whether you want to board that flight or not. |

At every stop the big medevacs offload patients who are then transferred (often by other aircraft) to their ultimate destinations. How many get off at which stop is almost random and can be totally different each time -- it's a function of who is on board this particular flight and where they have to wind up. |

When I was at Peterson last month I was told there is a Scott Medivac that goes to Manhaten, Kansas, Biggs in Texas and Peterson AFB Colorado Springs Co. I believe it is twice a week. The Scott Pax Reps said they transfer some patients from the Andrews flights depending upon destination. |

Last year I flew the Andrews Medivac to Travis, most of the patients got off at Scott. My question is why would they get off at Scott, I'm not aware of a military medical facility in that area? This past Saturday the Andrews medivac offered seats only to Scott where they were picking up patients. |
