Thanks for the info. To clarify, we were wanting to fly out of McChord to Calif. Travis is the most convenient, but any of them will do and we will rent a car as we are travceling between Ontario and Sacramento. We are halfway between McChord and Whidbey so either one works. I will watch Whidbey's schedule also. Thanks! any other input would be great. Round trip tickets are just too pricey right now but one way wouldn't be too bad.

I agree with Bill that the Navy C-9s are the best solution for this trip (though you didn't mention where you are in California--if near Travis, then it might be more convenient to go east to get north, ie, go to Andrews then catch the McChord medevac.) The return from McChord to Travis is pretty easy because of the twice weekly medevac. Oh--I see you refer to "getting down there" so I guess you are originating at McChord. I'd say take the chance as long as you can afford a couple of tickets on Southwest from Sacramento to Seattle if necessary.

You would probably have better success by going up to Whidbey Island and flying Navy back and forth to either North Island or Pt. Mugu.

Cherry is giving you the right scoop. There are few planes going from California to McChord. The medevac flights are the flights you see on the flight schedule from McChord. Those planes do not go back thru McChord on their way back to their home base. Happy Travels.

Some of what you have been seeing "from" McChord to CA may have been the almost-regular 3x weekly medevac flights that originate at Andrews AFB, normally stop at Scott to offload some patients, continue to McChord to do the same, then usually have a RON at Travis and continue to Miramar (and/or a few other California bases) the next morning. Those flights usually return to Andrews to drop off the medical team and then return to their home base. So on the McChord schedule you can see a flight to Travis, but it is not actually "from" McChord but rather only "via" having originated elsewhere.

This kind of circular route is extremely common among military missions. Many flights may go from A to B but NEVER back from B to A!

I have been watching flights to and from CA through McCord. I have noticed that there tends to be a lot of flights going to Travis from McCord, but I don't see many flights coming back to McCord from Travis or from the other two bases, March and Miramar. We are looking at flying down mid August Cat III on leave needing to return on 8/23 and debating if buying a ticket home would be best. Looks like getting there should not be a problem but getting back might be? Anybody have any input on this would be greatly appreciated
