Charleston has no on-base bus service, only taxi service. |

Refer to a Military Living's book, Temporary Military Lodging and see if Goose Creek Naval Weapons Station has vacancies in their rooms. Goose Creek NWS will most likely be closed until Tuesday, 1 June. You will have to call between the hours of 07:30 - 15:45 (local time) as they close very early in the day. The phone number for billeting is: 843-764-7228. Goose Creek is a good alternative for military lodging if Charleston AFB has no vacancies. Goose Creek NWS is located a very short distance north of Charleston AFB. (Just about 5 miles NE from Charleston's North Gate....in a straight line.) No problem driving there if you have your own wheels. The coordinates for the main gate of Goose Creek NWS are: 32.967775 -80.000243 |

Ask about a TLF. They were under renovation but may be finished now. They are just beyond the water tank. |

Before accepting the statement that lodging is full, I recommend going there in person (at Charleston it's a reasonable walk) and asking face to face. You just never know what may magically appear! (And if it turns out to be true that there are no rooms at that inn, each one normally has a list of nearby hotels that give military discounts, with the rates, so your trip to lodging is not a total waste of time.) |

We were at Charleston last week and had to go commercial for 1 night. Stayed at The North Charleston Inn, 2934 West Montaque ave cost 62.50 and that includes a small breakfast. phone 843 744 8281 It was not a bad place, but will cost $15.00 for a cab ride if you do not have a car. |

We are considering routing through Charleston to get to Andrews this week. I've checked with lodging...no rooms. Not familiar with Charleston so would appreciate advice. If there are no rooms at lodging...is it easy to get off base to a hotel and not cost an arm and a leg? How is camping out at Charleston and getting something to eat...I think we would maybe have to do just one night before getting out..fingers and toes crossed. |

I am about to start my first space a trip with two little children... So obviously I am a little nervous. Is anyone at Charleston who could give me some feedback of how things are over there? I am just "fishing" for either reassuring info or unusual events that I might not be aware of just by calling the Charleston PAX phone line... Thank you |
