Larry,
Another possible west coast destination for you to go in to would be Point Mugu Navy Base. One caution on going in to that facility; there is virtually no on-base transportation available and becomes very, very difficult to get anywhere from the terminal after working hours and on weekends. On one occasion the wife and I arrived there late in the evening, and, while we had lodging reserved on base, there was no way to get there. It's entirely too far to walk, especially when dealing with luggage. We fell at the mercy of a kind flight crew member to transport us to the lodging office. There was a Hertz location nearby that could come on base to pick us up for a rental, but we had arrived there too late to make that happen. Therefore, we had to wait until the next morning to get them to come for us.
Be forewarned, therefore forearmed, when going in to Mugu. But, it may be another possibility for you to finally get to L.A.

Larry
If by Barstow, you mean Edwards AFB, yes there is an occasional flight into there. Getting out may not be easy and be sure you have someone there to pick you up or other arrangments. It is not a spat friendly base. Lodging is usually available but is far from the terminal. Good luck.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to Travis since you have a deadline date. There are not flights from Travis to March on a routine basis. I would take anything to southern CA.
Never heard of flights at Barstow.

Good Luck.

Thank you Cherry and William! We live in north Alabama. Can drive to Jackson MS and catch a hop to Andrews so that's the reason we asked about Andrews. William, how often does Charleston go to Travis?
Thanks again to both of you for your answers.

I would recommend you go from Charleston to Travis and onward to March. There are many flights from Travis to March. Periodically, there are flights directly from Charleston into March. Happy Travels.

Larry, if you will look at the Andrews "Flight Schedule" postings, you will see that the 3x weekly flights (medevacs) are still fairly predictable, departing on M, W and Sat mornings with a RON at Travis that night before going on to other CA locations.

The Wednesday medevacs have recently taken fewer space-a passengers because of using a different type of aircraft, and the Saturday ones are more popular with the higher priority folks, so Monday missions are usually the easiest to get on, but Lady Luck can strike (or strike against you, unfortunately) at any time.

On occasion there are other, direct, flights from Andrews to Travis or North Island or (more rarely) March as well, and even (in a very rare blue moon) to Los Angeles IAP!

If Andrews is your preferred starting point (your profile does not say where you live) you should have a fairly easy time getting out to the west coast from there if you can devote enough time to your trip.

Thanks, John. Was wondering about ADW to Travis and then trying for something farther south of Travis. Do you know if the ADW to Travis is a weekly still?

I'd take anything to anywhere in California! Obviously March may be better (not sure if you'd get much into Barstow?)

We are Cat VI and need to get to Los Angeles by June 22. Do we need to try to go to March or Barstow. What's your best advice. We are flexible as long as we can arrive by June 22. Any help will be appreciated! Mac and MM
