Linda: If you're not adverse to driving at both ends of your trip, I'd call NS Norfolk and NAS Oceana to see what they have going westbound on the days you're thinking of traveling. If there's nothing going to California but flights to NAS Jacksonville are scheduled, give NAS Jax a call to see what they've got going west. (See John D's Space-a Pages link for the phone numbers). |

Try Andrews AFB MEDIVAC (3x/wk) to Travis, then to March ARB (fairly frequent). March Inn is available on Non Reserve weekends. March ARB to Simi Valley is approx 106 mi. Point Mugu has lodging and MWR beach front rooms. Distance to Simi Valley, approx 31 mi. Back to the east coast: Reverse out of March to Travis, to Miramar MCAS, to Andrews. |

The closest base for arrival will be Point Mugu. Finding a flight there, however, probably won't be easy. A number of C-130's are based there, and you might find a flight from a Navy base, such as Norfolk (we caught one such hop there), Oceana or Andrews. There is somewhat regular traffic (at least one flight weekly) between Dover and March ARB (probably about 90 minutes driving time to Simi Valley). Finally, look for flights to North Island, which would give you a roughly 2-1/2 (or a bit longer) drive. Flights to NI will show from Oceana, Norfolk, and occasionally Andrews. |
