Carole, Last month my wife & I flew from CHS to Ramstein in an attempt to hop over to Mildenhall. Normally, there just isn't much heading to Mildenhall from CHS. Well after trying to catch a flight for five days, we finally gave up and caught a C17 back to CHS. If we had limited ourselves to one 30 lb. bag each we would have been succesful getting to Mildenhall as there were a few C21's going there and we had a very good sign-up date. Also with limited weight we could have also taken a commercial flight to England on Ryanair for example. Funny thing was, we got home (Charleston) and three days later there was a C5 going directly into Mildenhall which we had no problem getting on. I also suggest you make sure you have reservations at Ramstein as lodging can be a problem but the new Ramstein Inn is very nice and directly across from the passenger terminal. |

What is your catagory? Have you checked the flight schedules? Charleston doesn't really fly to Mildenhall. They fly to Ramstein, then you could get to Mildenhall from there. If you want a direct flight, you won't be able to fly from Charleston. I would check all the east coast bases for flights. Good Luck |

Lindsey: Welcome to the Board! If you have not yet done so, please familiarize yourself with JohnD's SpaceA Pages (link top left), the general layout of this site and the Search Function (magnifying glass at top center) of this site. Nearly all questions can be answered from those three sources. Having read thru the FAQs is a great start and I would suggest reading thru the other sections on JohnD's site as well. In relation to your proposed trip, traveling SpaceA to/from Charleston (or anywhere on the East Coast) to Mildenhall (or anywhere in Europe) in the summer will be very challenging. We try to avoid the Summer (15 May to 15 Sep) as this is typically one of the busiest times (Christmas (15 Dec-10 Jan) being the other) with a lot of competition for spacea. Please ensure that you are prepared to spend more time in terminals than you can imagine. Also be prepared for additional food, lodging and expensive, last minute commercial tickets should you be time restrained upon your attempted return. As stated often on this site, experienced SPATS avoid Christmas and Summer travel whenever possible. In sum, can it be done??..Yes, Just be mentally prepared for things to not go as smoothly as you might be expecting...and be pleasantly surprised when they work out. Happy travels, John |

Hello- My husband and I will be attempting to fly space a for the first time ever. We are trying to get to Mildenhall from Charleston to visit some family stationed there. What would be the best way to get there? and to come back to charleston? We will also be bringing our infant son. Any advice will be appreciated! Lindsey |
