Carole: That's why I used "the DC Area" in my response. Happy Travels, John |

I am not familiar with Fort "anything", So he should have been more specific. I am familiar with Florida. I was just trying to help. |

@Carole You keep directing Wyatt to McDill. He told us that he's stationed at Ft Myer, Virginia not Ft Myers, Florida Andrews AFB, Willow Grove JRB, McGuire AFB and NAS Norfolk would be his best shots for flights to McChord AFB and then by shuttle van to Seattle-Tacoma IAP to catch the Patriot Express if that's where he's aiming. Wyatt, As you probably have read, summer travel can be difficult to any location. Dodds schools in Europe start Aug 30. So you should expect the 30 days before that to be difficult but not impossible to get to Europe. I believe McDill flies to Mildenhall, UK. That might be an option. Don't discount getting a flight out of MacDill to Europe or the east coast to make a connection to Europe. Good Luck and Happy Travels Carole |

Correction, if headed to Europe we would most likely go to BWI first, and be ready to drive to Dover/Andrews if anything popped up. |

Thanks so much for the suggestions Carole, we are just trying to sort out the best way to do it. We are willing to go anywhere, but I am feeling like our semi-plan is either go to Dover and wait for the first thing to Europe (Azores, Italy, Spain, or Germany all sound fantastic to us), or head to Japan. My wife just graduated with her bachelors in East Asian studies, so she would love that too. For Japan we would try to get to Sea-Tac, based off your recommendations and what I've read so far. If there is a slim chance of getting to Washington State from Andrews/Dover, should we just get commercial tickets then Space-A once there? We'd like to avoid Travis because in August I hear it's a little busy, even for a Cat 3 and his wife. |

Wyatt, Another choice to get to Yokota AB,Japan is to go from Travis via Elmendorf, AK. You can also check on Norfolk NAS or NAS New Orleans to get to Whidbey NAS in Washington. Macdill AFB, FL(Tampa) had a flight to Hawaii today with 10 seats. Good luck. Let us know how your trip went when you return. |

Wyatt: Welcome to the Board! If you have not yet done so, please familiarize yourself with JohnD's SpaceA Pages (link top left), the general layout of this site and the Search Function (magnifying glass at top center) of this site. Nearly all questions can be answered from those three sources. Having read thru the FAQs is a great start and I would suggest reading thru the other sections on JohnD's site as well. In relation to your proposed trip, traveling SpaceA to/from the DC Area (or anywhere on the East Coast) to Hawaii/Japan (or anywhere in the Pacific) in the summer will be very challenging. We try to avoid the Summer (15 May to 15 Sep) as this is typically one of the busiest times (Christmas (15 Dec-10 Jan) being the other) with a lot of competition for spacea. Please ensure that you are prepared to spend more time in terminals than you can imagine. Also be prepared for additional food, lodging and expensive, last minute commercial tickets should you be time restrained upon your attempted return. As stated often on this site, experienced SPATS avoid Christmas and Summer travel whenever possible. In sum, can it be done??..Yes, Just be mentally prepared for things to not go as smoothly as you might be expecting...and be pleasantly surprised when they work out. Happy travels, John PS: There are no military flights to SeaTac...you would fly military aircraft into McChord or Whidbey. Only the PatEx flys to SeaTac. |

Watch the McDill AFB (Tampa) schedule. They have flights to Hawaii sometimes. If you contact the terminal, they could give you more info ahead than our posted flight schedules. Sea-tac would not be my first choice for Hawaaii. North Island(Navy) flies to Hawaii quite often. If you want Yokota(Japan) then you could try the Patriot Express out of Seatac to Yokota. Summer is a challenging time to fly space a but you are AD, Cat III, so you will be in better shape. Watch all the flight schedules so you can work out your plan. Be sure to have plan A,B,C, D. |

Hey everyone, I'm new here and my wife and I are looking to take a Space A trip this summer (to ANYWHERE). I am active duty and will be taking about 30 days of leave. I have done some searching, and I'm just curious if there are any flights from Andrews/Dover/BWI (I'm stationed at Fort Myer) that go to Sea-Tac? We'd like to try for Japan/Hawaii, am I right in assuming that it's better to fly from Sea-Tac instead of Travis? I've check the next category moved and various flight schedules, is this assumption correct? Thanks for all the information and helpful people on this website, it's great! |
