Thanks Senan, Please let us know if you digup any more info. I too listen to RTE Radio but didn't hear anything on this subject. That's not to say the topic wasn't on one of their news broadcasts as I don't listen to everyone of them! |

Hi John D....I am originally from SW Ireland and frequently listen to a local radio station (on the internet) within 10 miles of Shannon...one of their recent broadcasts was lamenting the loss of jobs at Shannon due to termination of US stopovers..at first I thought it was because of volcanic ash as the time of the broadcast coincided with that. I sincerely appologise if I have started an unfounded rumor. I would love to hear from anybody on the May 31 flight from Sigonella to confirm that they at least touched down at Shannon. I will try to also obtain further info. I travel to Ireland every year about this time but use commercial means. I am a Cat VI but I did Space A from Seymour Johnson to Mildenhall and back same route last September. sorry again if I misspoke. |

If you check the flight schedules, you will see Sigonella has a flight going to Shannon on Monday, May 31. I don't know if that is once in a lifetime, but you could roam the flight schedules. Good Luck |

Myles: If you plan to fly Ryan Air to Shannon you should plan on travelling light because their if you are over weight you will have to pay them a big fees. Happy Travels. |

Are you retired and flexible with time and need few seats? J'ville NAS could have Missions to Sigonella this Spring & Summer; and if so, usually has seats. They sometimes fly through St John's Newfoundland & Shannon to Sig. If so, get off at Shannon. If the ash cloud returns again, the routing could change to Lajes and Sigonella. Because J'ville only posts their flights 2-3 days out, you have to move fast and look for a flight to Lajes or St Johns's and call them to see the onward routing. Hopefully they will tell you and it could be Shannon. Otherwise fly from J'ville to BWI (think weekend) and work your way to Ramstein (via Andrews or BWI) and ComAir RyanAir to Shannon from Frankfurt Hahn, near Ramstein. Or drive to Charleston from FL (you did not mention on show on your Bio where you live) and look for a flight to Germany. Then work your way to Shannon or a Mil Flight (usually a small plane with 30# luggage limit) to Mildenhall UK. Then you can bus to Dublin or fly Ryan Air from London Stansted to Shannon or Doublin. |

Senan, Do you know when the Shannon flights were suspended? Schedules have shown Shannon flights this month. Do you have a link to the news story you're referring to? |

I believe all military flights into Shannon have been at least temporarily suspended if one is to believe Irish news stories but stayed tuned to flights out of New Orleans as that is where most recent flights originated that had a stopover at Shannon. otherwise get military flight to Germany, UK, or Spain and fly on to Ireland with Ryanair or Aer Lingus(commercial) |
