James: Welcome to the Board! If you have not yet done so, please familiarize yourself with JohnD's SpaceA Pages (link top left), the general layout of this site and the Search Function (magnifying glass at top center) of this site. Nearly all questions can be answered from those three sources. Having read thru the FAQs is a great start and I would suggest reading thru the other sections on JohnD's site as well. In relation to your proposed trip, traveling SpaceA to/from Florida (or anywhere on the East Coast) to Hawaii in the summer as a Cat VI will be very challenging. We try to avoid the Summer (15 May to 15 Sep) as this is typically one of the busiest times (Christmas (15 Dec-10 Jan) being the other) with a lot of competition for spacea. Please ensure that you are prepared to spend more time in terminals than you can imagine. Also be prepared for additional food, lodging and expensive, last minute commercial tickets should you be time restrained upon your attempted return. As stated often on this site, experienced SPATS avoid Christmas and Summer travel whenever possible. In sum, can it be done??..Yes, Just be mentally prepared for things to not go as smoothly as you might be expecting...and be pleasantly surprised when they work out. Happy travels, John |

Best & quickest routing is from J'ville FL NAS to HI (Hickam or K. Bay). But the J'ville recording and the Flight Schedule postings on this board only go 2-3 days out. You might check the North Island Arrival Schedule on their web site and you might see a J'ville C40 arriving at North Island and the Departure Schedule and see if it goes on to HI. The North Island Schedule can be a week or more out: https://www.cnic.navy.mil/cnrsw/Programs/Operations/AirOperations/SpaceAFlights/ index.htm Also check the Ft Worth & Whidbey Schedules (on line) to see if any flights fly through J'ville onward to the West Coast. These schedules can be 2-3 weeks out. J'ville fly Lift Missions to HI often, a few a month, and also fly West Pac Det Missions to Atsugi periodically. Drive down/over to J'ville to check with their Pax. Terminal for advance info.. Also call their VR unit (politely and very humble) to see if they will give you info. in advance. They usually will tell you more in person. Getting home/back, start heading home to the East Coast from HI about a week before you need to be home. |

Hello - we are newbys - never used SpaceA b4... trying to gather as much info / be as prepared as possible. We will be a catVI I believe (retired trvlg with 3 dependents). And yes, our plan was to travel during the summer From what Ive been reading it looks as though that may not be likely... We have about 3 weeks to work with and our departure dates to and fro are flexable (but during kids sum vaca). 1)Is it even worth attempting - we are up for an adventure but I dont want to spend 3 weeks trying to get to someplace we will never arrive at and 2)it looks like if we can make our way to Travis its our best bet to HI...any other advise/backup routes to get from Jax to HI? |
