Ryanair flies all over Europe to Eire. Aer Lingus matches most of the Ryanair fares. Look on both web sites. Ticket prices vary with day/week/hour. Figure $75-$150 from Spain to Eire. Slainte!

Boats:
Sounds like a fun ininerary, especially for a lad with an obviously Irish name!
Westover usually has 2 or 3 flights a week to Rota, but they go via Dover -- one of the most popular bases in the east. The aircraft is a C-5B (lives at Westover) and maintenance "breaks" are frequent. At one point earlier this spring every single C-5 belonging to Westover was sitting on the tarmac at Dover "broke"! Because you're active duty CAT III, you'll have excellent priority, so if the plane flies, you should be on it.
Rota has occasional flights to Mildenhall UK -- from there you should be in good shape to get to the Old Sod. Have a great trip!

Colin,

Go to www.whichbudget.com for info on over 100 discount airlines in Europe.

Click on "Spain" and then choose "Ireland" as your destination.
It will tell you what, if any, airlines fly to Ireland. If there's anything, you click on a link to the airline's webpage and you can check flight schedules, fares and also book tickets on line.

Happy travels,

Irv

Colin:

Welcome to the Board!

If you have not yet done so, please familiarize yourself with JohnD's SpaceA Pages (link top left), the general layout of this site and the Search Function (magnifying glass at top center) of this site. Nearly all questions can be answered from those three sources. Having read thru the FAQs is a great start and I would suggest reading thru the other sections on JohnD's site as well.

In relation to your proposed trip, traveling SpaceA to/from Westover (or anywhere on the East Coast) to Ireland (or anywhere in Europe) in the summer will be very challenging. We try to avoid the Summer (15 May to 15 Sep) as this is typically one of the busiest times (Christmas (15 Dec-10 Jan) being the other) with a lot of competition for spacea. Please ensure that you are prepared to spend more time in terminals than you can imagine. Also be prepared for additional food, lodging and expensive, last minute commercial tickets should you be time restrained upon your attempted return.

As stated often on this site, experienced SPATS avoid Christmas and Summer travel whenever possible.

In sum, can it be done??..Yes, Just be mentally prepared for things to not go as smoothly as you might be expecting...and be pleasantly surprised when they work out.

Happy travels, John

PS: Best way to/from the Rota area (Jerez) to Ireland is commercial via RyanAir...pack light.

Hey Everyone,
I'm an active duty E-6 stationed near Westover, ARB and was hoping to take my first Space A flight during two weeks of leave in August. From Westover to Rota, what would be the best or most expeditious way to get to Ireland, including commercial? And if I get there, does anyone know any good places to stay/visit (Need to see St. James Gate!) Thanks for any info!
