North Island NAS has Lift & Det. Missions going East & West. Some fly to the Med (Rota, Sig., Naples & Souda Bay); but mostly to Sigonella. They also fly to HI & Atsugi Japan for Lift & WestPac Det. Missions. Usually plenty of seats open on the Det Missions but going West you have to get off in HI as no non-SOFA to Atsugi. Lift Missions can have lots of Duty Pax., so sometimes seats are limited. We have found it sometimes easer to fly Overseas than in the States/CONUS as returning can be more predictable returning home from Overseas. Travis will usually get you to Air Force Bases and North Island to Navy Bases, but there are exceptions. You should not have any trouble after mid Sep.. North Island has the C40, with Airplane seats, a great 1st time experience when flying your first SpaceA flight. |

It really doesn't matter, east or west. My wife has been dying to go on an Air Force or Navy plane! She should have been in the Air Force instead of me. I loaded them for years, did pax, hazmat, seen them, flown on them, etc. She never has been on a mil a/c. We can go wherever since I am now retired, civ. and mil. Thanks for the help. |

I would say there are minimal issues with flights (numbers/frequency/etc.) due to the turn of the fiscal year. Some may say there might be an increase in duty Pax PCSing but I doubt it - no facts to confirm or deny. I would think most Cat III travel would be done for the summer - again, no facts to confirm or deny. My advice would be to travel at the end of September when you're ready and don't try to over-analyze it. |

We're also thinking about Space A the last week in Sept: 3 cat VIs to Germany. After reading John D's Space A FAQs, and literally every post in the General, Schedule, Last Moved, and Trip Reports forums -- except the archives -- I've still got a couple of questions for anyone willing to answer: Are there any issues with flights (numbers/frequency/etc.) due to the turn of the fiscal year? Has anyone noticed in increase in Cat III travel at that time due to use-or-lose leave takers? We'd probably look at leaving from Jackson, MS, but the east coast is possible, too. Thanks in advance. I am thinking of going Space A from either Travis or North Island in Sep. I was thinking second or third week, since by then most kiddies are in school. How is Space A that month? Any help appreciated. |
