Way to go, Ernie! That is some super news for all of us SPATS.

I used the link supplied by Cherry and sent my kudos as comments to the people at March ARB.

Thanks for letting us know, Ernie. See you soon in Vegas.

In this case you would go to "site suggestions, questions, comments" and that would bring up the option to comment on a service not specifically identified. Use that.

Ernie, and all--

There is a military site set up for just the kind of comments (negative OR positive) that Ernie wants to make. It's "Interactive Customer Evaluation" also known as ICE. Go to:

http://ice.disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=ice_main

and choose your branch of service plus general location.

In the case of March ARB, you will make your way to

http://ice.disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=site&site_id=485

and click as appropriate. BTW, there are many bases that have not set up the full range of services to choose from, so in cases like that you can look for a "comments" box and type in your remarks (including, perhaps, that the site needs to be brought up to standard by adding all the services on which people want to comment!<G>)

Cherry wrote: "When will they make it easier go to the far-off front gate?".....Cherry I checked with PAX terminal reps this morning (I live less than 5 miles from the base) and was informed that there are no plans for on base shuttle service. Additionally, Taxi service is not allowed on base.

Meg: Enterprise Rental Car (951-486-8686) is allowed on base. Also it is possible to arrange for them to leave a rental car at the PAX terminal after duty hrs. Give them a call and they can explain to you how this is done.

Again, the pleasant personalty and positive attitude of the PAX Reps are greatly appreciated. I would like to let their supvs know how efficient they are. If anyone know how I can do this please let me know?

In fact, my (admittedly non-scientific) review of flight schedule postings for May reveals following from east coast ports to March AFB:
Charleston - 6 flights in May
McGuire - 5
Wright-Pat - 2
Dover - 1
Andrews - 2

Good news indeed! Thanks to all for update on March. As the closest (90 mi) AMC base to San Diego, we now have a viable AF route to Southern Cal, in addition to our beloved (but oft unpredictable) Navy system.

Good Morning I just called March recording 9AMPDT and there flt's leaving for Travis and Dover this morning. Based on aircrew info when I flew into March late April they normally fly out to Dover on Th or Fri and then go overseas to unk destinations and return from McGuire 8 days later on Sat afternoon. I haven't located a rental car agency that's open after they arrive at March and would love that info if someone has it. They have flt's that go and return from Travis, where they go on from Travis is unk to me. The Dover flt doesn't seem to be posted very often probably because it doesn't make the recording until the morning of the flt. The terminal has been closed on the three ocasions we arrived so have never talked in person to their pax reps, the 2nd time we arrived the acft parked near the terminal with no transportion anywhere and the last time transportation was provided to the billeting office. Thank You Ernie for your info. Meg

Mike: Best I can figure is the flights SUU-CHS originate in March. So that's your best route to CHS, normally they have about 3 a week.

It seems Charleston (CHS) has a few flights to March ARB (3 this week), but rarely (if ever) a flight listed from March to CHS. Maybe its cause of the mission routing from Europe back to CONUS, but I would like to think that occasionally March has flights to CHS?

Roger, My husband and I have flown from Dover to March and back. Usually easy to get on. I think they have at least a once weeky flight. Anne

William, always interested in more options getting from the east coast to the west coast. Where do they fly to on the east coast most frequently and have you taken the flight both ways?

TIA
Roger in Jacksonville, FL

Good news, Ernie -- thanks to you and others for following up! (The next question is, When will they make it easier to get to the far-off front gate?)

But your final comment, "it is far better to stop by and talk with those folks at PAX Terminal rather than talking with them over the phone" holds true at almost any terminal, and particularly (in our experience) at Hickam. The Hickam people will not disclose much over the phone but when someone with a military ID is leaning over the counter (and asking nicely) you can get a whole lot of advance info on potential flights back to the mainland. This makes it far easier to plan when to start waiting!

We have had our voices finally heard at March. A recent change in command is the reason. There have been flights leaving March for the east coast twice weekly for a long time now. Some were posted and other were not but if you went over to the opns area you would find out about them. We have never had a problem going to the east coast from March and we do it about four times a year. Great to hear of the change and hope it lasts a while. Happy Travels.

As a result of numerous complaints and a recent change of command, March ARB PAX Terminal has become SPATs friendly. It is now open 7 days per week from 0730 to 1600 hrs. After talking with supv at PAX Terminal, I discovered that there are some scheduled flts that are not listed on this board. Other than the usual "Cactus Flts", I do know there is a flt that leaves March ARB (usually once a week) going east. Other than that, I shouldn't post anything else regarding this flt. However, I do recommend that if you are in the March ARB area, it is far better to stop by and talk with those folks at PAX Terminal rather than talking with them over the phone.
