To add to the "don't leave the terminal until the plane has taken off" rule: I was flying space-required on the PatEx run to Lajes and beyond two years ago. The Norfolk terminal was PACKED-tons of unaccompanied moms with kids in tow, lots of retirees, etc. I'm not sure where roll call ended, but it certainly didn't make it through Category IV, might not even made it through Category III. Roll call concluded and lots of people left, upset and wondering what to do. We boarded the plane, waited to for baggage to load and waited for take off. Suddenly, a family offloaded. One of the kids got sick and they deemed the child too ill to travel. The family got off and guess who got on? The lone couple who had decided to stick around and wait! |

Justine, in addition to no flip flops the rule is no open toe shoes, they have add no open back shoes in some place too. It is best to travel in a tennis shoe type shoe, that you can walk and climb in. If you get a C5 you will need to climb a ladder that hangs out of the celing. I would not wear short shorts or halter type tops, but that is me. The planes can/do get cold, so it is best to be in layers of things so you can add or remove what you need to be careful. Also I always carry hand wipes too, the planes will run out of them most times. |

Justine: We travel often and try to travel light. We don't carry sleeping bags and blankets but we do have carry jackets in case the aircraft is cold. I would try to keep my weight under 30 lbs so that we can travel on any type aircraft. The post by leanne is telling folks to be travel ready so they are not refuse travel because they are not travel ready. Happy Travels. |

See things are the things I need to know;) No flip flops and what else? I want to be ready because I am traveling a small window of opportunity and if I get denied my heart will be broken because I am visiting the deployed hubby who has been gone for over 6 months. Would you really suggest traveling light, i.e. only with a carry on? and I have read that people bring blankets and sleeping bags....thoughts? |

And to add more to it: Do not leave the terminal until you know that the plane is not airborne yet. Chances are the loadmaster might add more seats if he found out that theres more pax wanting a ride. Good Space A tips Leanne. |

You always read and hear to be travel ready. They mean it. I saw some lessons learned by other travelers today at Travis. People were starting to leave the roll call area when 3 CATIII passengers who said they would go on the flight changed their mind and got off. This opened 3 seats. A CAT III couple had to pass because they had not parked in long term parking. A CAT V Dad and child got passes. Dad left the area thinking there was no way he would get called. CAT III & IV above him had too many in party and could not take the open seats. A CATVI couple because the wife had on flip flops. She ran out to the car and got the real shoes while hubby talked to rep. Rep denied them boarding because they were not ready when name was called. You never know what will happen. The lesson of the day is to Be Travel Ready. |
