Wow Danny you have the patience of Job to figure out all those permutations. I was at Torrejon as an Ensign in 1971 great place, great flamenco in Madrid. |

Danny: What I would have liked to have known is what happened to the old Torrejon (sp) AFB? I used to go in there fairly frequently back in the 80s. Great O Club, BOQ and fantastic golf course! |

As the middle part of my trip did not involve Space-A travel, I will not bore you with the details of the next 10 days. Suffice it to say all 3 of us enjoyed getting together again after 40 years! As one us lives in Madrid, 2 of us mooched off him while we were in Madrid. We did lots of side trips and had two lovely days up in wine country, Rioja, where we stayed in a hotel that had been built in the 14th century! Drank lots of good Spanish wine and ate very well, too. Lots of laughter and good times. On Thursday, 19 November, I flew back down to Jerez on Iberia airlines. Less than 10 minutes after leaving the terminal with my bags, I caught the bus back to the Jerez bus station, and less than 5 minutes after arriving at the bus station, got on another bus that took me down to Naval Station Rota. I had reserved a room on Rota for the next 4 nights, but there was a flight scheduled to fly to Charleston AFB early the next morning. Showtime was originally set at 04:25, but before I went to bed I called the pax term again and was told the showtime had been moved up to 02:20. I set my alarm, woke up at 01:45, called the pax term and was told the showtime was now 03:30. Set my alarm, woke up at 02:45 and was told the showtime was now back to 04:25! Short night. I tried to delay my check out time for the room until I was selected for a seat on the C-17 going to Charleston, but the lady at the front desk said that would not be possible. I either had to check out now or not check out at all, as I had to SIGN a paper to be checked out. Rather than argue, I just checked out and did the bag drag to the pax term. |
