The regulars here always say hang out at the terminal, it may not be as comfortable, but the plane can't leave without you if you are there. thanks for the report. |

My two daughters and I recently flew from Alaska to Korea to visit my husband on the one annual unaccompanied flight we are allowed while he's there. It went fairly smoothly. I flew commercial into Anchorage on a Sunday evening and had a room booked at guest housing on Elmendorf. That one move saved us MUCH $$ and time, as our room was within walking distance of the terminal. A C5 was supposed to leave Sunday night at midnight, but that would have been too easy. There was a problem with the aircraft and the flight was pushed to the next evening at 11 pm. I decided to keep my room the extra day so we'd have a place to hang out while we waited and, well... just in case the flight got canceled again. Which it did. I had been calling every hour on the hour to check the flight status and just as I was getting the kids ready to walk out the door, I called and the flight was canceled. (In fact, I found out later the crew decided to take off an hour early without any advance warning.) Lucky for me, there was some sort of computer malfunction on board several hours into the flight and they had to turn around, come back and get me the next day. ;) I TOLD them they shouldn't have left without me. It took them another day to fix the problem and this time, I showed up at the terminal a couple of hours early. Good thing too. They started manifesting passengers not long after I arrived. This time we got on the flight, made a brief pit stop at Yokota for fuel and continued on to Osan the same day. Whew! Love those C5s - when they work! BTW, the employees at the Elmendorf guest quarters were SUPER nice and helpful. |
