Yes, they sure had an effect on space a for Cat 6. They were a really nice family though. Very well behaved, and the older ones took care of the younger ones. I could tell from the git-go they would affect my ability to get to Elmendorf. JC |

A family of 13? That has to be a nightmake unless you are cat 1. And Jim, I'm guessing that they were a higher cat and going to affect your future flights as well. |

Trip Report, McGuire-Travis-Misawa-Yokota-Singapore-Manila, Nov 22-Dec 4 Objective: Join wife in Manila (Wife flew commercial a month prior.) Planned Route: McGuire-McChord-Seattle Tacoma airport-Yokota-Singapore-Manila. Constraints: Had to attend Conference in Boston from Nov 19-22, and start from McGuire AFB, the nearest start point to Boston. Sun, Nov 22: After completing my conference in Boston, I flew commercial to Philadelphia, arriving too late for a bus connection to McGuire. I took a train to downtown Phil, then I stayed overnight at the HI hostel in Philadelphia, Apple Hostel, right near the Liberty Bell, walking distance from the train station. Monday Nov 23 I got up at 5 AM, caught a bus to McGuire, and arrived by 11 AM. I then caught the McGuire Dix govt shuttle bus to the terminal. I signed in as present and waited for the afternoon flight to McChord. Having signed up for space a on 10-15-09 I had a pretty good Cat 6 priority. As I had been unable to research the Patriot Express previously, I started researching then. By early afternoon, the Monday flight to McC was cancelled, and there were no other flights to the West Coast that day. Tues Nov 24 McC flight again cancelled. By this time I had found out the Thursday Pat Ex from Sea-Tac to Yokota was also cancelled, and the Saturday Pat Ex from Sea Tac to Yokota was full of duty pax. So I researched some more at Pepperd.com, and found there were flights every other day or so from Travis to Elmendorf, and frequent flights from Elmendorf to Yokota. I started looking for flights from McG to Travis or Elm. None on Tuesday. Wed Nov 25 I found a flight from McG to Elm on Friday to wait for. No other good alternatives. Thurs Nov 26 Thanksgiving. I would have thought I’d be in Japan by Tgiving, but that’s the breaks. Ate Tgiving meal at mess hall. Flight to Elm moved up to Thurs nite departure, then cancelled. Decided to try to get to Travis on Friday. Fri Nov 27 Departed McG for Travis at 1400. Plenty of space A seats on a C-17, but there was a family of 13 traveling, with final destination Elmendorf. Bad news for the future. Checked in at VOQ, and slept til Sat. Sat Nov 28 Awaited flight to Elm which was cancelled til Sun. Sun Nov 29 First flight to Elm was full, and I can see lots of dependents wanting to get on second flight. Researched flight to Misawa in Northern Honshu, but could get no info on pepperd.com, or from Pax terminal at Misawa. Had to make a last minute decision, so decided to take the flight. Plenty of seats, only 5 of us Cat 6 space a pax on a KC-10. We found out after boarding that the flight was continuing to Singapore! |
