Mon Nov 30 arrived Misawa, and security police took our passports and confined us to the base til Tuesday, when Japanese Immigration comes to stamp passports.! We should have been told that BEFORE departing Travis. The 5 of us teamed up, as we were all headed for Singapore. Bad news was that the KC-10 had only room for duty pax to Sing from Misawa. We did some research and came up with a plan to rent a van, hire a driver and drive to Yokota, around 500 miles. Cost less than a bus or train ride. Tues Dec 1 Got our passports stamped and returned to us at the pax terminal, and departed by van to Yokota by 1300. Cost $120 each for 5 of us. Thank God for teamwork and camaraderie of space a travelers! Arrived 9:45 PM, around 8 hour drive, just in time to receive Phone calls at Billeting from some Japanese friends. Wed Dec 2, Had two sets of Japanese visitors that I signed in to base and took to Club for meals. |
