To John Garrison: Report in 3 parts because of some kind of anomaly between pepperd website and word file. Pepperd site wouldn't allow me to post it all at once. It caused me a lot of difficulty, but I felt I should post the report, so others would have the benefit of the knowledge. To PR: The folks at the pax terminal at Misawa are contractors. They were very hospitable and apologetic, even gave us a ride to Lodging. I think the Japanese immig people only come a couple of times a week. They mentioned its a 2 hour drive for the immig people. Nice report, James. This is the first that I have heard that you can actually space a to Misawa. The immigration thing has always been an issue. Did you get a sense that they don't mind folks coming in, or did it seem like you were 'a problem'? Also, do the immigration folks show up every day, sooner or later...or only when there are non-sofa pax?? |

I really appreciate you writing up this trip report. I am planning a similar trip for July and it is good to see what you went through to get there. Inga |

James: Great report! Thank you for taking the time to write it up and share it with us. A little confused about why you divided it up into three parts for three separate threads...it could have easily been in one thread, IMHO. Again, though, thank you for wiriting it! Happy Travels, John |

Very nice reporting on a trip to the Pacific. I suspect not many Cat 6's go that far in that direction - and definitely didn't know about the restriction on traveling at Misawa. I plan to go to Korea this spring to visit my son who is teaching English there and this was useful information. |

Thurs Dec 3 Signed up for direct flight from Yokota to Kadena, then to Manila, PI. Made the roll call and started to board, then were informed we could only travel to Kadena, and would have to get off there, so we turned down the flight, and waited 2 hrs for a flight to Singapore. We got boarding passes, then I made the mistake of not booking my flight from Sing to Manila on Cebu Pacific. Got on board, and flew 7 hrs to Sing. Plenty of seats, DC-8 combi. When we arrived, there were no flights that evening to Manila, and the Cebu Pacific flights on Friday were also full, so we had to book flights on the more expensive Jetstar ($500 rd trip) to Manila. Fri Dec 4 Had to spend the night in Sing airport, but got on Jetstar and made it to Manila by 1030 AM and my wife picked me up. Mission Complete. Lessons Learned: 1. Thanksgiving week is a bad week to travel. I suspect that, If the aircrews can find any reason to cancel or postpone so they can spend Tgiving at home, the flights won’t go. 2. If you get a boarding pass to Sing from Yokota, make your airline reservations by internet before departing Yokota. That way you can fly the cheaper Cebu Pacific Airlines. Respectfully submitted, Jim Coppens |
