Last time I stayed at Ft Meade I was able to get a taxi to BWI without any trouble. Seem to think it was less than $15.00. It has been a while though. |

If you have to drive up to BWI again (I assume you do this trip often since geo batchin' it) I'd suggest billeting at FT Meade. It's about 15-30 min drive from BWI. You'd have to rent a car, but it's by far closer than Bethesda. |

Left Sub Base Kings Bay on 18 Dec for Christmas Leave to fly to NOB Norfolk on a C40 on 19 Dec. Spent the night at the Gateway Inn at NAS JAX, $45. I did this becasue I had flown out of JAX on a Saturday before when the Rotator to Gitmo was also going and knew that the line would be "long". As you may recall 19 Dec there was a BAD snow storm, we deverited to NAS OCEANA, it was not a problem for me becasue the crew told us before we left and I call the wife to pick me up at Oceana. Gave a couple of other SPATS a lift to the NEX and one to NOB Norfolk. Sent a great time at home (I doing the Geo Bac thing until I retire next OCT). For the return leg; Plan A, fly something out of NOB, or Oceana back to JAX. Nothing was going until late PM Sunday, needing to make sure I was back opted for Plan B. Plan B, Fri 8 Jan fly on the DC Shuttle from Langley AFB to Davison AAF. After a weather delay took off planing to devert to Reagan becaue of ice at Davison, but ice was cleared and landed at Davison. The crew there are wonderful and helpful. There was not enought room in the Pentagon Shuttle for a SPAT,but the Saftey Officer was going to give me a ride to the DLA bus stop, when he found out I was heading to the METRO he took me to the Springfield station. METROed to BWI, my plan was to rent a car and spend the night at Bethesda Gateway after consulting with the USO folks they suggested a better plan would be a local hotel with shuttle. USO had list of Hotels, checked on line and found a great rate at the Holiday Inn Express for $72 with a 24 hour airport shuttle. Roll call for the JAX/Gitmo rotator was 0400, showed up at 0300 to check-in, 115 seats to JAX, 14 to Gitmo. Crew checked me in and gave me a boarding pass, no need for a roll call. Hung out at the USO until boarding time. Arrived NAS JAX got in my truck and drove back up to Kings Bay. |
