George-

Appreciate your trip report! I know what you mean about show time - they may say 0230, but you just HAVE to be standing at the doors to get in when (if) they open in order to catch the flights. Did that for about 5 days back in July 09. Very hard to do when getting into the room at 2300 or so, and then trying to gear down and catch a few ZZZZZZs.
I'm interested in the tickets you got on Icelandair. Since we were stationed there for 5 1/2 years - two tours, it has been my/our wish along with the daughter who was born there, to get back there. Now, without any base with an air terminal, it is very hard to try to plan.
How did you come across the inexpensive flight tickets? Was there any layover by chance, or was there a chance that you could schedule a layover, in Keflavik (where the Leif Ericksson airport is located)?
Be interested in knowing that info for possible future reference. Thanks again for your input - nice to see you got back to the states and enjoyed some of the middle Atlantic region's snow!

Sincerely,
Ted_M

First, thanks to everyone for their help with this trip from this forum.

Second, the report: Got out of Ramstein on my first day of leave, but I didn't know that even though a show time of 0130 is on the recording, that doesn't mean the terminal is open at 0130. Fortunately, the KMCC hotel was open so I hung out there a couple hrs.
The actual flight was delayed quite a while to de-ice the plane, but made it into McGuire just fine, and 12 hrs later into McChord.
Trip back was a different story due to the history-making snow on the East Coast. I was doing to fly through either Dover, Andrews, or McGuire, but all three had either too much snow or no flights going to them. After 3 days of trying, I found a pretty inexpensive ticket on Iceland Air and avoided everything by going through Iceland.
But, I did get to spend almost a week with an old friend at Madigan, so it was all definitely worth it.
Thanks again for everyone's help!
