Phyllis,
We enjoyed your pics of the BFB. We are heading to Travis on Mar 2, then on to Hawaii, and on to Guam to visit the grandchildren. We hope to have a week or so in Hawaii on the way back from Guam. I appreciate all the good info I have received from this website. We are new Spats and are looking forward to our adventure. Thanks,
Carole

Great photos Phyllis. I'll be passing through Hawaii on my way to Kwajalein and Wake Island in about 3 weeks, then back to Kauai for a couple of days to visit Barking Sands. I'll try and get some shots of the cabins there and of some of the other places as well

Not sure this will work, but I promised JD I would post the pictures. If this isn't working for you I have them on my facebook page too. You will have to wonder who the folks are and what some things are ,I have not figured out how to write and post both.

Oh... OK, 40 days puts you under their wire by 5 days.

So, when you said "At K Bay we had 55 days and had been told we would make the flight because of the sign up.", I thought that you had done the math and that they had changed their rules.

40 days... good for you... excellent timing.

Phil, I didn't do the arithmetic, our sign up day was 12/19, we fly back Feb 6. We were at 40 days, I knew we only a few days left and we would have been out of luck. I had asked about our chance and that was the answer I got. We had not used K Bay before and I was just going on the Navy time frame.

The following is from Kaneohe's FAQ:

QUESTION 3: How long does my name stay on the Space A list?

ANSWER: All travelers remain on the register 45 days after registration, or for the duration of their travel orders authorization, or until they are selected for travel, whichever occurs first. Revalidation has been eliminated.

So, according to the above, Phyllis was 10 days past her sign up cutoff when she traveled. So the statement "...been told we would make the flight because of the sign up." doesn't make sense unless they no longer enforce the 45 day rule.

Phyllis,

I thought K-Bay had a 45 day signup. Have they changed it?

I left this out of my report, but this trip was one where sign up date was very important. Fort Worth was not bad, we had 57 days, and less folks than seats, so we were good. The one couple who got on at NI, beat out another CAT VI couple by 10 hours on their sign up. At K Bay we had 55 days and had been told we would make the flight because of the sign up. This was just like the Dover flight to the S&S, when we are having our get togethers, sign up do play a BIG part in getting there.

Phyllis, Great Report and sounds like you had a fine time. Wish Evi and I could have made the trip. I'll see if I can find an email address for Jack and Mary Ann and maybe give them a call since we're both in Pensacola and talk to them about their trip. Take care.

We left Fort Worth January 28, @ 9:15, 2 hours earlier than posted, and I’m sure that was to beat the ice storm headed our way. The flight showed 69 seats, we filled 41 of them. Most were CAT VI, but did have several active duty folks on board. We landed at NI around 11:45 local time and left about 12:30.
We had 6 people get off and lots waiting to get on. Only 3 CAT VI got on the rest were
higher on the list. Landed at K-Bay about 4 local time.
We meet a wonderful active duty father traveling with his 3 children back home and they gave us ride to Ford Island. The lived there and were very happy to take us to the Navy
Lodge. This family, Tony & Kristi Woods and their 3 children are now very special to us
and we will for sure see them on our next trip to the island. If any of you visit Ford Island on a Saturday, look for a lemonade stand about a block from the Mighty Mo, this will be Rebecca, the 8 year olds stand. Stop get some lemonade and tell her we said hi.
After checking into the lodge, we walked out to Kam Hwg. and took the bus to the Hale Koa. We arrived to late for the get together, but had dinner at Bibi’s than took the bus back, using our transfer. Total for the bus ride $2.00 for the two of us.
Friday, we were suppose to pick up a car from Hertz, turns out they will not come pick you, “who do think we are Enterprise?” So I called enterprise, they gave me a quote higher than Hertz, but when I told them Hertz price, they matched it, thanks Alex. We didn’t do much this day, but did show up at the BFB, enjoyed seeing old friends and making new friends. Rich, thanks for the tip about the parking lot, you save us many $$
this year. We had dinner at a pizza place next to the Hale Koa, medium cheese $17.00 was a good pizza.
Saturday off to the flea market, found lots of fun things, ran into Bill Mathews & Jim Brown while there. Also went by ITT at Pearl BX, booked a whale watching cruise, and picked up a great book with coupons in it. We had an early dinner at Schooners just under the bridge to Ford Island. They have a seafood buffet on Saturday night 4-8 all you can eat for $22, good shrimp and crab legs. Check the book from ITT to get 15% off bill. That night we meet up with JD, Uncle Bud, Mick White and some friends of JD’s for the Lt. Dan concert. Our new family the Brooks were also there, so we had a great time.
Sunday we drove up to the North Shore. Had lunch at Jameson Sea Side, a little pricey, but very good. We had Crab & Shrimp salad on sour dough bread with some good French fries, $$37.00, they are located on the old road in Haleiwa. Also visited the North Shore Soap factory in Waialua, this is just a little out of the way place with some nice soaps and different things, kinda Bath & Body works goes Hawaiian. Also in this same area is a chocolate and coffee factory. Both of these are small time, but enjoyable. The coffee & chocolate factory is owned by Dole.
Monday We drove up to visit with Bertie & Gregg. They gave us a tour of the area their son lives in. We stopped in at Barbers Point beach, nice beach but to far removed from things for us. The cabins there are being redone, but the old ones are just that old. We ate at Zippo’s this was where I had the purple pudding. They have good food and the price was right, about $8.00 for my 3 course meal.
Tuesday Today we did the Admirals tour. This was the highlight of the trip for us I think. Not sure who first posted this info, but thank you! We meet us with Becky & Mike on the tour, it was raining, but still a great time for all of us. We had lunch at the Pearl Harbor golf course. $13.50 for two burgers and two cokes. Nice outdoor setting, watched some planes leave some land. Meet up with JD, Jack and Mary Ann from Pensacola, at the BFB for a while, than off to dinner at Giovanna, again thanks to Rich we saved 20%. Had baked Ziti, one meal would have fed both of us, so we took the
leftovers back home with us for another night.
Wednesday Whale watching trip, pier is across from Ward Entertainment center, dock 4, tickets from ITT $23 for the two of us. We went out for about 2 hours saw lots of whales and enjoyed the trip great to see the beach and Diamond Head from the water. Lunch at PF Chang, coupon from the ITT book, 2 for 1 so it cost us $15 for lunch. No dinner this night, still full from lunch.
Thursday drove back up to the North Shore, stopping in at K-Bay to check on the flight back home. Nice drive up along the coast from there to Turtle Bay. After parking the car walked out to the beach, they were filming a movie with Dennis Quad and Helen Hunt. Watch for a while, just knew they would need some old pale folks for this movie, but it didn’t happen, so we left. We just had lunch at food court at K-Bay this day and for dinner finished up our Ziti.
Friday, got the laundry done, check out of Navy Lodge and headed to Hale Koa to pick up Susie & Jim Brooks for the drive up to K-Bay. Checked into the 5 Palms, went by to be sure the plane was coming. We had dinner at the golf course. They have a couple special each day, it was Prime Rib that night. The price should have been a clue, $9.95, but we order it anyway. The vegetable’s and potatoes were real good, the meat was so think you could see through it, but like I said $9.95 should have been a clue.
Saturday Show time 7 lift off at 9. They showed 15 seats, must have been 30 of us there. Also a flight going to Fallon, Travis and than back to K Bay. They asked who wanted to take that, about 4 folks said they would as they knew their sign up date was not good. They got all set for that flight, than they said get you luggage, the good folks of Ft. Worth are going to take all of you. We had a direct flight into Ft. Worth arriving there about 18:30 local time, 61/2 hour flight. American Air Lines could not have done better.
A couple things I learned this time, when I called Enterprise at K Bay to see about getting a car there and dropping off at Pearl they said $50 drop off fee. The Brooks picked up there car when we landed Thursday, wanted to return it on Sunday and were told to take it Honolulu, no charge as they weren’t open on Sunday. When I asked at Pearl about drop off at K Bay, they said no problem $30.00. So I’m not sure why it is free on Sunday, $50 to drop off at Pearl and only $30 drop off at K -bay. But next time, I will tell them I want to drop off on a Sunday if we fly in there and head down to Pear or that area.
