Ok, well here goes.I purchased Southwest airlie tics from Jacksonville to BWI one way for myself and 4 kiddos. We spent the night at the Red Roof Inn BWI for a mere 49 bucks and it was quite adequate and had a shuttle. On Monday we managed to get 5 of about 30 available seats to RMS and it was a great dc10..very roomy and comfortable and the pilot was a true pro..avoided all the turbulence and landed like a feather. We were able to secure lodging at Ramstein due to the very kind Mr Parker and AIC Peterson who took pity on us lugging our bags and all to the front desk at 11am each day to see if there were openings. I had purchased one way tickets on Ryanair to dublin and the night before, we traveled to Hahn via the Scherer bus service which leaves about every 3 hours from the Shell station on A6 at Saarbruken, however this bus service will cease operations on March 1st.Its too bad because it was a only 11 euro for adult and the kids were free! At this point there is not much else to use to get out to Hahn . Anyway, we stayed at the B and B hotel..it was 59 euro for the night for a room with a queen bed and bunk beds..it was small but comfortable and right across from the terminal at Hahn. Unfortunately for us, the next morning as we prepared to leave, my 4 year old became very ill and was screaming in pain that her head hurt. The kind desk clerk, Kathryn, personally drove us to the pediatric hospital Diakoni in Bad Krueznach where she was admitted for 3 days. It was very frightening but the staff was wonderful to us and even provided a separate room for myself and other children there in the hospital while Tovah recovered from a double inner ear infection and flu. Many many thanks to Kathryn who took care of my son at the hotel until the Chaplain from the Wiesbaden Army community was able to drive him to me at Diakoni. What a G-dsend they were. During this time, the Army medevac'd my husband from Iraq to Ramstein to meet us at the hospital. After Tovah's release, we were given another 4 days at Ramstein Inn for her to gain strength and we then repurchased our flights to dublin. |
