Edgar......William has left the building!

But in the 3rd post of this thread he did confirm Andersen's terminal is open 24/7 now.

I did check the Magellan Inn and was advised that the facility allows retirees ONLY on Sundays. The Commissary across from the terminal makes sandwiches, and they are VERY LARGE and delicious. Your choice of meats, cheeses, etc. Cheap!! I wouldn't recommend "Top of the Rock" for breakfast unless you just came back from Outer Magnolia and were desperate!! Cinnamon rolls, maybe!

"Taxi to town is $60. Rental car -- same.Room in town - $75-100."

Given those alternatives, I would have stayed in the terminal for the 2 nights billeting was full, too. Are retirees still allowed to use the Dining Facility on Andersen?

ttt - You can request to be put on the Space A notification list put out by RAO Angeles City.

Lester -- No lodging for TWO nights. Taxi to town is $60. Rental car -- same.Room in town - $75-100. Don't know when you were there last, but the terminal is not that small and the seats are leather. Besides, I'd rather spend time with 22 good friends than be comfortable in a downtown bed!! Better than a foxhole. Different strokes, as you say.

William: In Guam, couldn't you get a room downtown at a hotel and take the shuttle or rental car there instead of hanging out in the terminal? I've been in that terminal and it is fairly small, but the back room where the TV is probably accomodative, but a hotel would, in my view, be a better option as the Navy facilities are on the other side of the Island. When I was waiting for Space A out of Hickam, one retired couple told me that they had been sleeping in their compact car for a week waiting for a flight out. I guess that this goes with the addage of "different strokes for different folks," but that is outside the range of my experience unless I were forced to find a spot to hang out for an impending flight. But for a week, I most certainly would have to spring for a comfortable bed especially if I were travelling with my wife who would then force me to fly commercially.

Larry, billeting was available for three of the five days at Andersen. Stayed in the terminal the other two days. 22 of us scrunched up in the chairs! 24/7 operation. At Yokota we stayed in a "holding" area for three hours. Anchorage, we stayed on the plane for two hours. But, I'm here, so that's okay.

Glad to hear you finally made it to CONUS after zig-zagging all over the Pacific.

Were there rooms available at Andersen billeting for the 5 days you were waiting there? Is the PAX terminal still open 24/7? Were you able to get billeting for the Yokota and Elmendorf layovers?

Departed Clark on World Airways MD-11 brought in to take National Guard troops back to Guam after "Balikitan" exercise in P.I. Sat in Guam for five days with 22 other Cat 6 brought in on a C-17 from Hickam that broke and stayed on deck an additional two days. Most scheduled flights either dropped to zero seats or were cancelled. Finally got a Navy C-9 in that took all waiting Cat 6 to Kadena. Signed up for Patex on Friday. Delayed to Saturday. 45 seats to Seattle. Saturday roll call brought everyone out of the woodwork!! Kids! Kids! Kids!45 seats went fast, but they advised to wait a while for seat reconciliation. Came up with an additional 25 or so seats. Took all but three Cat VI. Layovers in Tokyo and Anchorage were VERY cold for this PI resident!! Met a few REAL heroes on this flight. Great to travel Space A!!
