Congratulations! You are now enjoying the benefit of space-a travel, brought to you by serving in the military. Enjoy the sites in Spain and I'm looking forward to the next segment of your trip report. |

Oh, I almost forgot! REMAIN FLEXIBLE!!! I don't mean to be a downer, but things can take a turn for the worse at anytime...also, keep track of how much you are spending. I'll bet its still pretty low. How are your ATM/credit cards working? Where are all the pics??!?! |

My husband and I have never flown Space A. Our intent is to go backpacking in Europe. As a Category III we were hoping to go to Ramstein initially but with the volcanic ash disrupting airports we decided to try and get to Italy instead. Monday, April 19 McChord AFB to Dover AFB Showtime 1440. Arrived at 1300 and relaxed at the USO. PAX usually calls USO and announces roll call. Roll call was on time. C-17 with only 3 passengers! Flight duration 5 hours. Meal 4.25/each. Stayed at the Eagle's Inn for $39. It was about a 15 minute walk from the PAX terminal to the hotel. Tuesday, April 20 Dover AFB to Rota, Spain Showtime 1425. Marked present at 1am once we arrived from McChord. 1am - 19T seats 11am - 0T seats 1pm - 73T seats It's a good thing we kept calling! We hung out in the USO. Did NOT realize that they don't make announcements inside the USO. I had a huntch that we ought to get off the computer and go to the terminal area. They started roll call early! All the Cat VIs were checkin in their bags. Fortunately, there were enough seats so they processed us. Flight duration 7 hours aboard a C-5. Meal 4.25/each. The airport was SO busy that they did not have any stairs available. We went down a narrow flight of stairs through the cargo area which was very cool. Wed, April 21 Arrived to Rota at 5am. Rota was INSANE!! All flights were being diverted to Rota. It was a nuthouse. Fortunately we asked if there were any available seats to Sigonella. There was a flight leaving at 8:30am with 2T seats. Luggage limit 30lb/person. We got'em!! Woohoo. This was a C-26B 12 passenger plane with four passengers! Flight duration 4 hours. BOQ is 50/night. I LOVE this website and was so intimaded about using Space A but now I can say it's absolutely fantastic. Granted it's low season and we had great luck in catching flights just about back to back, I expected the worst and was very pleasantly surprised! Also, thanks to whomever put the tip on printing an email with ALL bases you are considering flying into as confirmation. It saved us in a couple of the airports because they didn't have us on the list but honored the email! |
