Oscar R. At Singapore when my boarding pass was issued to me I was ask if I have an onward ticket. I told him that with a U.S. passport I can stay for a year; plenty of time to buy a ticket. I got a nod of approval. If you reserve it far enough in advance, you can really get cheap tickets from Cebu Pacific, Tigerasia or Jetstar. I paid 1500 pesos ($32.00) for my Manila to Singapore - Cebu Pacific ticket when I started my trip. Other than that they’re always booked solid, of course. Note: If you find that you’re stuck in Yokota for a few days, take a trip to Tachikawa http://www.city.tachikawa.lg.jp/cms-sypher/www/english/result.jsp?genre=1 . A 20-minute jaunt from the Fussa station, alight at the end of the Ome Line or the 7th stop. Fare is 160 yen ($1.75) 1-way. (Press the box that says “English” in the ticket machine). Atop the big dept. stores; Lumine, Takashimaya, etc. are dizzying arrays 4-star restaurants of varying Asian cuisines. Beats the food court at the BX, I’m serious. Note: The hostel I stayed in Singapore is a block away from Sim Lin Square - an 8-story commercial bldg. brimming with electronic gizmos. |

Thanks for the report Roger, I am guessing close to $400.00 plus from LV, an 5 days. One question for you when you arrive back in RP, what about the follow on ticket, did you purchase a refundable fare or did they not trouble you for it? I have always been there as visitor and not the SRRV program. |

Last Mon. May 24th flight to Paya Lebar (Singapore) was rolled called at 4:25 a.m., since the Japanese Immigration office is closed at this hour, (they’re open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) you are allowed to stamp out the day or night before. This part is important since you won’t get manifested on a space A flight without it. Unless you have a ride, the office is an easy walk depending on where you’re coming from the base. Out the terminal gate and to the left. It’s a small silvered color building that looks like what’s it’s suppose to be; an office. You overshot it if you’re at 7-Eleven. It’s a good walk from the Kanto Lodge to the Terminal unless you have a ride. Japanese taxis are more trouble than they’re worth. TIP: If you have a lot of luggage, commandeered one of those luggage cart at the terminal and bring it to Kanto Lodge the night before. The plane is an ATA - Asian Transport Airways - DC8. It has a capacity of 32 seats - our flight has 27 passengers. On this six and a half hour flight, we were fed 3 snacks, 1 breakfast and a box lunch. Movies were Avatar and Blind Side. From the Paya Lebar terminal you can call a taxi to get to wherever you’re going. But for $1.00 (SD) you can take Bus 94 to Eunos (MRT) and probably get to where you want to go from there for less than $5.00 (SD). Since I’m a single male traveler my accomodation choices would be different from that of a couple, but I like to stay at a hostel called G4 Station (near Little India MRT). A bed at an 8-bed dorm cost $28.00 (SD) a night. It’s not as bad as it sounds. The place is modern (new), there’s 4 wooden bunks with 2 bed each, a lot of room in between, and a keyed roomy locker. It’s air conditioned and there’s free wi-fi. There’s also a 2,4,6 bed dorms. A lot of Australians, Europeans stays here. Whilest here I hit the internet for my flight to Manila. The cheapest I could find considering the immediacy of my reservation (2 days) was through Thai Airways 1-way for $337.02 (SD) inclusive of all taxes and fees. The rest are all sold-out and cost a premium. I found this through Zuji a Travelocity Singapore affiliate. |
