I think you're right-it really was a minor hiccup, but the first leg spoiled me. I will definitely do it again.

Great report! Thanks for taking the time to write it up and to share it with us,

"After a textbook perfect trip from Europe, you knew that something would have to go wrong on the way back. "...actually...in my experience, I'd call that a "minor hickup".

Happy travels, John

After a textbook perfect trip from Europe, you knew that something would have to go wrong on the way back.

After an enjoyable few days visiting the States, I reported myself present to the CHS Terminal at 1300 on 23 May. I was told there was a flight to Ramstein and I was on it and should return at 1830 for Roll Call. When I returned, I was manifested and we boarded at around 2200. While getting ready to takeoff, the plane broke and we went back to the terminal. We were told that it could leave at any time and that we should stay at the terminal. It was a rough night trying to find somewhere to lay down.

The next morning the plane was still broken. I spent the day in the terminal. A few Ramstein flights left but couldn't take any pax. As we sat the number of people wanting to get to Ramstein grew and while my situation wasn't great, it was getting worse for retirees looking to get to Europe.

At midnight a random additional flight was added and they cleared out the entire terminal. Flight was uneventful and I was very happen with my sleeping bad/mat that I bought for the trip back. Both C-17s with 86 Space A pax arrived at Ramstein within minutes of each other. I am happy with the money I saved and will do it again.
