Having watched the data for the last 2w, Mildenhall rarely has any flights to CONUS. The airman at Spangdahlem said CatVI can easily return from there. I have observed 3-7 flights/day to CONUS from Spang, slightly fewer from Ramstein. I don't plan to even go to M'hall. |

We signed up on 6 April for (hopefully) a flight to Naples the week of 1 thru 5 June as we had rented a house south of Naples from 5 June til 12 June. We left South Carolina in our Hertz rental car and arrive in Norfolk the evening of 31 May. We immediately went to the AMC terminal about 5:30 pm and talked with the folks there. They told me there was a tentative 120 seats for the 1 June Rotator flight going to Naples. We then went to the Navy Lodge and checked in for the night. Had reservations for 2 nights just in case ($68.00 per night) We prayed alot for the flight. Returned the next afternoon (1 June) about 5:15 as we had to turn our rental in at the terminal. Checked in and was told there were still 120 seats and only one other Cat VI and wife had checked in. Roll call would be about 9:00 pm. We went upstairs and waited. Good facility, restrooms have showers, there is a snack bar, nursery for the kids, USO, WIFI. About 8:45 pm we were paged to come downstairs and told we had seats to Naples YEAH and thank the Lord. The plane was to depart at 11:45 pm, so at 2:00 am 2 June we departed. But the price was right. $30.80 for me and the wife on a 767. Beats $2000. Arrived in Lajes, Azores and had to depart for fuel and cleaning. Departed after a 1 hour delay on the tarmac and arrived Naples about 8:30 pm instead of 6:00 pm but THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. Checked into the Capo Inn without reservations but they had rooms, got up the next day ate some breakfast on base and then heade out the gate to the Naples airport. On the bus to Sorrento, Italy (South of Naples). We are not looking for SPACE A until late July and will be in Ireland, Scotland, England before then. Hope to get something out of Mildenhall or Germany by 18 July or there abouts heading to anywhere on east coast, but prefer Charleston, SC as we live an hour from there. Will keep you all posted.
