Barton is correct. Anthony's is definatly seafood. I ate at so many Mexican places, I went peripheral. Food outstanding, beautiful harbor view, prices lil high but I will eat there again. |

Howard, we have eaten at Anthony's many times but I would not call it a Mexican restaurant! It is just about the best seafood restaurant in San Diego, but others may differ. The prices have escalated a lot in the past few years, but the food is superb! |

Yes Donna, we discovered the rail system too late to use. Direct shot from "Old Town" to the border crossing would be nice and we will try it next trip there. Truman: Eglin is not that good for space A. I think they still have a recording but it is not kept up to date. I worked the transient line up till a few years back. No scheduled flights at all and the best way to check is to call base ops. I have found the best way to west coast is either Pensacola NAS or Jax NAS. Returning to USA at the border ? They did get on me and reminded me of a $2000 fine for not having proper paperwork and I humbly recieved my thrashing. |

Thanks for an informative report. I have 2 questions: Anything ever out of Eglin (we live near Panama City)? and did customs hassle you about not having a passport? Truman |

Not the most succesfull space a trip but perhaps someone could use bits of information. 2 June >> Asked the boss (wife) if she had a week free and "lets to to Cal for a few days. OH the freedom of retirement. We drove from the Eglin AFB area to Jacksonville and got a room for the nite. If you stay at Jax .. ask for a riverside room. I think the room was $45 and it was great. Split rooms with kitchen and great view of the river with beautiful large deck. We got on the C-9 next am with a 5 hr flight to Pt Mugu Cal. We wanted a flight to North Island or Travis but no flights. The pax terminal had a van so they took us and some friends we met (Richard & Connie) to lodging. We has Called ahead to Pt Mugu for a room. Lodging is about 1 mile from terminal. Average type rooms but only twin beds. The small NEX, bowling alley, and subway are only 1 block walk. We rented a car from Enterprise and they picked us up the next morning at the gate which is only a couple blocks walk. Enterprise was only $23 a day and they allowed me to drop car in San Diago area for a $40 fee. Richard and Connie had family in SD so they went with us for the 3 1/2 beautiful drive along the ocean on the Pacific highway. After checking with North Island terminal for flights, we dropped off our friends and got lodging at Pt Loma (10-12 mi) across the bay. Pt Loma is very nice with separate bedroom / living area and bathroom in middle. Very large land scaped center court between buildings with a large swimming pool. They also have deluxe continental breakfast M-F for free. We spent 3 days there seeing "Old Town" ~~ very nice ~~ and a few flea markets. After some serious thought and questioning locals ... we decided to drive to the border and visit Tiajuana sp. I suggest driving to bus area at border crossing and taking the bus to shopping areas. This is very easy with a short wait at border vs a long walking wait. We forgot our passports but after a scourging ..they let us pass with our drivers license. We saw no problems there concerning drug wars etc. Normal city life as far as we could see. We ate delicious food and the boss spent lots of money. We checked the next day for a flight eastbound and there were none for 3 days so we caught a red eye to Jax. OH >> If you want the best Mexican dinner in San Diago, I suggest Anthonys on N Harbor Drive ...just down from the airport. |
