It gives all something to look forward to just as we looked forward to the KMCC opening.

It sounds like a legal hassle. "You were supposed to provide the furniture", "No, you were", "But it says right in the contract..." etc.

The government has lawyers on full time staff, so they don't mind using them. The contractor's lawyers get paid by the hour, so they are in no hurry to resolve this.

The taxpayers get hurt, but hey, they lawyers are making money and that's what matters, right?

Mervin,
I was by there last week and went inside. The rooms are carpeted and complete as far as I could tell except for furniture. The hallways are not carpeted and I suppose that will be the last thing they do after installing the furniture. It still looks like it could be a going concern within a month at most, if they would get off the dime.

I just received an email from the Buckley AFB News that stated "we are tied up in a legal issue at the moment so we don't know when we'll be able to take befeficial occcupancy. Go to our web site www.buckley.af.mil, on the right hand side, under "Buckley Air Force Base Links", click the 460th Forces Support Squadron Line - at the top of that page is a tab "LODGING", click on it and it reflects the Air Force Inn which says that lodging on Buckley AFB is expected to open in "late" 2010. Lodging will include 120 visitor quarters and 30 temporary lodging facilities. So there we have it folks, don't expect to rest your head at the new Buckley AFB Inn until late 2010, if then.

I asked Buckley public affairs about the inn and just received the following:

*****************************

In answer to your question, the structure of the buildings themselves is done, as you've noticed. However, the contractors are still working inner
systems, including heating and electrical, to ensure that anyone staying at the inn once it does open has the best possible experience.

I don't have an official opening date yet; however, as soon as we know that
date, it will be posted online at http://www.buckley.af.mil.

Hopefully this was of help to you, and again, thank you for your patience.

*******************************

In sum, no information.

Keith, I would imagine the standard rooms will be $39 when it opens just as they are at other AF bases. I use to stay at Buckley when I went out there on orders so I'm glad to see them opening that opportunity again.

Was by Buckley today. It appears completed with very few construction vehicles. The landscaping seems complete, at least there are a few more trees than several weeks ago. I saw no indications when the grand opening would occur but certainly 1 March seems a possibility unless they have run out of funds for furniture. It looks from the outside like a done-deal and very upscale.

There are two buildings, a three story VQ that has 120 rooms and a two story building housing 15 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom TLF facilities.

It is, tho, huge. There are 2 major buildings, both 3 stories tall. One sort of looks different, like it might be tlf's.

I drove by today after hitting the commissary.

I talked to a 'cabling contractor'. He says that they have heard a bunch of different dates to open the place. From 'near to far'.

He says that they will have wifi throughout the place.

There was still a bunch of construction stuff around.

Smells like months rather than weeks.

I will check it out next week. I was at the Buckley commissary Thursday but the weather was too miserable to drive by for a look.

Any truth to the rumor that the same outfit that did the KMCC Lodge at Ramstein has the contract on Buckley?? ;-)

Happy travels, John

The Buckley Inn is still under construction. It looks like a case of arrested development. I was by there yesterday and went inside the reception area. It looks to me that the majority of the work has been completed and that it could be operational by the first of the year but I don't see a heck of a lot of effort to complete. I previously estimated it would open about 1 December but since that time has come and gone, I'll extend that estimate to 1 February.

I drove by it last weekend. The outside is still unfinished, so I would guess several months away.

It is also in a funny location. It is sort of straight south of the BX in an area that is just recently being developed. A new 4 lane road is being built to connect it to the main road.

It will end up being a little less than a mile from the "pax terminal" (in quotes because there really isn't one). It will be straight west from the terminal on the main flightline road.

Received word from the Public Affairs Office at Buckley AFB that they are hoping for a late fall opening, at the earliest, of the new Air Force Inn on base.
