New Cabins at Bellows Beach, Hawaii c...

Most facilities are rustic and a visit there followed or before to Waikiki at the Hale Koa gives you two very different but fun Hawaii's. We have stayed in one of the 4 or 5 newer cabins and it is nothing fancy. Seems as many years as thye have rented these there should be plenty of funds to build new ones. There were burn marks around the electrical plugs and the lamps themselves looked like the plugs were from the 60's! Bellows had no renovated cabins for any extended time in July. I could get one night on the ocean and the rest of the 2 weeks in my nonrenovated cabin but I felt like it would be going from a castle to a tent! SOOOO I am staying with my nonrenovated cabin and hoping it won't be too bad..... AND I am thankful that somehow I got 2 weeks last Friday when today I could get nothing! Both from this trip and from past experience there is a wide margin of comfort levels in the non-renovated cabins. The one I had this time was not bad. Last year, my wife and I had to ask to be moved because the non-renovated cabin was so bad. The renovated cabins are still relatively like new and so they would seem to be more consistently at a higher comfort level. If you want to roll the dice, stay with your current reservation. For my money, I think the extra $20 would be worth it just for the peace of mind knowing that I would have a good lodging experience. I have read some horrific accounts on these cabins - here and on TripAdvisor. More positive reviews seem to be posted on the renovated cabins. One thing that concerned me was that a poster said that the nonrenovated cabins on the website were not the correct ones.... really they were much more dilapidated. Anyone been there recently to give me the real low down on this? I still could upgrade my reservation at this point. Based on the pictures on the website the renovated ones are not worth $20 more a night to me. Based on people's comments though I am not so sure! Any advice would be appreciated! Apparently some resistance from the locals because they say the land should be ceded back to the State.
