I just checked and afvclub.com has condos on the Outer Banks of NC for $329/week in May (as an example). They seem to be in large complexes, but may be nicer than Kure beach and are cheaper. |

Linda, have you given any thought to Ft. Story in the Virginia Beach area? They have several diffeent type of places to pick from. The hotel/cottages on the beach are nice, they also have log cabins, and some old housing they rent. The beach is nice, there is a pool and lots to do in the area. It is not cheap, but better than some of the commercial places. |

Thanks for all the help. It sounds pretty basic. Since my adult children and their families are flying in from some distance, I may try to find something a little nicer. |

Linda, The base is nice albiet a bit stark. My wife says it has "no charm". There are houses and a barracks style building used by the State of NC to house those under going training. The 4 bedroom's are old concrete block military style houses that are OK. The houses are across busy Hwy 421 from the beach, less than 1/4 mile away. The area is a bit slow but if you just want beach it's good. The base has a rec center that serves meals and drinks as well as a boating center on the Intercoastal Waterway for rentals and fishing. Down the road about a mile or so is Ft Fisher State Rec Area with a nice beach and visitors center. Close by is the NC Aquarium. For other things to do Wilmington is to the North and has everything one would need. Southport to the South, on the other side of the Intercoastal, is charming and worth the trip. You can take a ferry from the Ft. Fisher area across to Southpoint. I would check the ferry service first to determine the schedule as this is where they had the fireworks explosion and I'm not sure abour current ferry operations. If you want a quiet beach vacation this is the place. |

Linda, we stayed in the 3 bedroom trailers a couple of summers ago. They are at the back end of the base on the sound side. The "cottaqes" (former base housing) are at the front of the base across from the ocean front. Public beach access at each end of the base between the ocean front houses. Everything within easy walking distance. Google map the address with the satellite view and you'll see what I mean. Since we were lugging the usual beach stuff, we would drive our van to the housing area and park it along the fence line and then just walk across the street. Haven't been in the houses, but the trailer was spotlessly clean as was all of the facilities on base. Great family vacation for the price and area. |

Stayed there a few years ago (short walk to beach) - at the time the rooms were fairly run down with common bath/toilet. Not sure if they have been upgraded since. |

Lee, Thanks for the info. I missed all of that. It looks like there are some $40 rooms for singles and doubles during the summer months. Any any additional info about the area would be appreciated as I would love to explore that are of the USA. |

Linda, Are you asking about North Carolina?? I was not aware that there was any Space A Lodging available. My sources including the Temp Military Lodging book do not include it. If there is-please share the info. Google has some info about the North Carolina Kure Beach. |

Has anyone stayed there? Are the facilities suitable for a family vacation (7adults & 3 young children)? |
