I stayed several times about 15-20 years ago at the sprawling Liberty Inn(also known as New Liberty), which is off the main strip in Balibago on the way to Angeles. Is this place still possibly open for business? The place was totally infested with stray cats (possibly in the hundreds- classic interbreeding of strays). The cat stench was beyond any possible human comprehension; in fact, the staff discouraged me from staying there about five years ago due to cat stench ( the longtime gate guard recognized me and gave me advice to stay someplace else).

I have stayed at Hotel Hana numerous times, it is within walking distance of anything you want to do and the rooms are fairly nice and clean and affordable. The restaurant is very nice and the pool is excellent. The rooms have full time AC and the showers are excellent - awesome water pressure and central water heater - no electric showerhead to electracute yourself!!!

I have to agree with Dale that the VFW can really be helpful to the SPAT and are more than willing to give assistance.

Staying in Perimeter Road Hotels often offers a challenge of transportation based on where you plan to visit. Hana Hotel is an option and midway between most activities.

The Clarkton has a shuttle service and as they say IMHO you get what you pay for. Their rooms vary in price and is often the local custom the least expensive will go first.

The number offered will most likely be answered by the staff as the RAO works very limited hours and emember the time difference.

Manila is a rather large area to offer suggestions. Makati is the finance section of the Philippines and prices will reflect that. Places to stay vary greatly up to a number of five star hotels. Midrange would be City Garden and Oxford Suites. A google search should provide you their websites.

If this is your first visit to these areas, it is best not to skimp on safety until you get a good feel for the area.

Depending on when you are arriving it is best to book ahead.

Happy Trails.

"best priced, safest, wifi, clean hotel in Angeles City"

I like the Maharajah Hotel, on Don Juico/Perimeter Road, near Friendship Gate. It's quiet, unlike the hotels on Fields Ave. Don't think it has wi-fi, though.

Hotel Hanna is also supposed to be a good value.

If you don't mind spending the extra bucks, the Clarkston would be the way to go.

Mike-- I will only come along if Phyllis comes to protect me.

I am actually thinking about heading that way next month. I found cheap air fares not only from the usual places like Singapore, but also Hong Kong.

Mike, If you get into a real jam, for your plan c,d or e, here's the local VFW Post, http://www.vfwpost2485.com/ . They say they have a pup tent there, but probably if you get caught sleeping in it, they'll punish you by having you recite alphabet backwards or something like that. All kidding aside, some of the Post's members own hotels in town.

Wish I could go to Angeles City but went to dentist yesterday and now I have to go to Panama and get teeth fixed after visiting kid in England, after visiting sisters in US etc!

Happy Trails.

Where is the best priced, safest, wifi, clean hotel in Angeles City, Philippines? I've heard Woodland Park resort? Also Manila or Makati?
