FYI - The Cercle has two hotels - the St Augustine which is the primary club hotel and probably where Fred is staying, and the St Genevieve in the Latin Quarter. The St Genevieve is run primarily for TDY officers attending courses at the Sorbonne but keeps about 8 rooms for others. The St Augustine has a few rooms for TDY officers but most are for others. I stayed at the St Genevieve a few years back. A double there is about 76 Euro according to the web site. Note that there are different rates for TDY officers and others. ( they try to set the TDY rate to collect what France pays for TDY and no more) See http://www.cnaparis.com/en - there is an english language version and you can select the hotel desired at the bottom of the page. Rates are shown but I don't know how current they are. |

121 Euro per night, standard. Just extended my stay to check out on Tue May 4, so apparently availability no problem this time of year. Some negatives but will post after return home. Blackberry difficult for me. Will answer specific posts while here. |

Checked into the Cercle National des Armees with no problem. Presented only military id with no rereference to reciprocal agreements. Only drawback - 3 Euro per 30 minutes internet use and only available in lobby. |

I am confirmed at the Cercle National des Armees in Paris. I emailed them stating my officer rank and requested dates. Did not ask for any reciprocal details or club number nor am I a member. Does confirmation mean I'm in or do they ask for more than military ID upon check in? |

"E-7 here so cannot stay at the Cercle National des Armees' Are you sure? Cercle National des Armees has a reciprocal arrangement with the Marine memorial Club in San Francisco - as far as I know anyone can join the Marine Memorial Club for about $100 a year. I stayed at he Latin quarter branch of the Cercle National des Armees and although a retired Officer no one asked me that question. |

Last month we stayed 4 nights at the Holiday Inn, 10 Rue Gager Gabillot, 75015 Paris. Bid through Priceline and got it for $85 a night, breakfast not included. This is a quiet, clean hotel with an English speaking staff. Our room had a view of the Eiffel Tower. www.holidayinn.fr/paris-mountain |

In 2003 we stayed at the Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot d'Or 39, Rue de Turbigo 75003 Paris http://www.hotelbellevue75.com/ This is a rather basic but charming hotel in the center of Paris, surrounded by 5 different Métro stations, near the Forum des Halles/Centre Pompidou. You can walk to many of the main attractions in Paris (Notre Dame, Louvre, Jardins des Tuileries, Rue de Rivoli etc.). The price then was 59 euros per room (2 people), breakfast is not included. I thought this was a great price for Paris and the location was perfect. I found it in Let's Go. Just found out that Let's Go is online now. Here are some traveller reviews of the hotel: http://hotels.letsgo.com/city/hotel_bellevue_et_du_chariot_dor_24876088 |

Two good choices; Formule1 and Premierclasse. Both belong to the Accor group and charge about 32-40 Euro per room, not person. Check out their website and see about proximity to the RER, the the subway around Paris. Noisy Le Grand is a great location for either hotel. |

1976-80 I was assigned to SHAPE. The USO in Paris used to get us discounted reservations at the Hotel Friedland near the Arc de Triumph. It is now a Best Western affilliated hotel and has been renovated several times since we were there. I remember it as a small neighborhood operation with a great breakfast with a staff that loved Americans. And this during a time when the French weren't too approving of Yankees. Paris is a very expensive place unless you book something along way from the tourist centers and take the underground (subway...the train, not the sandwich!) I just looked at several sites and find the Best Western Friedland for the 1st week of March is now a whopping $162/night. But by the photos it looks good and is now a 3 star hotel. Ah...for the lovely days of the boutique hotels of 35 yrs ago. Dam! I am aging faster than I thought!! |

My wife & I stayed in the Lorch apartment (see ad at top)& took a side trip to Paris & Normandy last May. We stayed at the Ibis Cretil http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-0851-ibis-creteil/index.shtml which is on the outskirts of the city. We drove from Germany so this hotel was easy to find but I did use a gps. We took the bus (about 2 block walk from hotel) to the Ballard subway which put us down town in about 30 minutes. Hotel is new, clean & reasonably priced, rooms are small but the location worked great for us. We would stay there again. Check at the ticket office in the subway for a multi day visitor's pass which works on the trains & buses. |

Lyle: The USO in Paris closed down years ago. They used to be on Rue Pierre Charon in the American Legion. Then they moved to the Embassy but after the Wall came down in Berlin and the Cold War went away...so did the USO in Paris. I spent a week in Paris 2 yrs ago and stayed at the Best Western on Rue St. Ferdinand the other side of the Arc de Triumph from the Champs Elysees. I believe they don't belong to the Best Western chain anymore, but Best Western has several hotels there. Best Western Axel Opera is advertising 86 Euros/night. Check out www.bestwestern.com How are you traveling?? check out a German/French railpass on Rick Steves' site. When you walk down the Champs Elysees with the Arc behind you, on the right hand side a few blocks, stop into my favorite ice cream pub at the Renault auto showroom. The pub is on the 2nd floor. You will love the ice cream and sorbet. The hot chocolate and pastries are great too. Then continue walking and get a Pizza at Pizza Peno across from the Aeroflot Russian airline ticket office. Realize everything on the Champs is tourist priced (expensive) but the quality of food is good. Have a great time take a trip on the beateaux Mousch on the River seine. If you fall over the side, your spouse can pronouce you....wait for it...."In Seine"!! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.....Good Luck!! |

Thanks, also I thought I would say this. After I posted this I did a search and found that someone had posted in Aug. 09 this same info. I should have checked that first. I have copied all of that info and will research it thoroughly. Someone new might see this post and give more info. I also have a Rick Steves Paris 2010 and will go through that as well. I love this pepperd.com. |

My wife and I plan to take a Space A trip around the first of March 2010 through Germany and then to a final destination - Paris. Does anyone have personal experience with a hotel that they would recommend in the $100-150 range per night? E-7 here so cannot stay at the Cercle National des Armees. Does the USO still exist in Paris? I have a book that is 2004 Military Living's European Military Travel Guide. If you have experience, please tell me all you know about the hotel, etc. Many thanks to all. |
