Stayed last week at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites in Key West, Trumbo Point Annex. Room was comfortable although bed needed replacement. Drunk person outside room with very foul language at 0300. Sounded like he was actually in the room with us. My husband asked if he could take it inside of the room and let me say the guy was very unbecoming of human decency. He thought my husband didn't see him flip the bird. My husband is very kind and always gives deference to every human being. Everyone is "sir" or "ma'am" or "mister" or "miss". Let's just say his ex is the only person that made him angry like that. His buddy finally removed the guy to his room after my husband told him he was going to call the front desk. Front desk personnel was fabulous during our stay. Very accomodating and smling. Loved the flying chickens in the palm trees.

Roger: Not sure about your Navy Lodge with "shared" room at Navy Lodge at $80. In my experience a Navy Lodge room was yours, not shared. The normal buildings near the terminal can be the small $10 per person air conditioned rooms close to the terminal or the non-a/c rooms normally offered by Lodging. These would be in the $37-40+ range.

Roger, just be glad you weren't on the East Coast. Navy rooms more than doubled in price there, and no change to the rooms. Cheapest I found in the Va area is Navy Lodge at $60 per night. The Gateway was more expensive, and only one bed.

Roger:

"I wonder how they justify the $37 for the room I was given?"

The going rate (world wide) for a single room at an Air Force Inn is $39/nite. Do you think the Navy is charging too little? ;-)

Happy travels, John

I was at North Island from Tuesday through Friday night of last week. Billeting is very tight. You should call ahead if at all possible.

My first night was a shared room at the Navy Lodge. It was comfortable with wired Internet (no wi-fi). My room had two queen beds and a kitchenette. Room price is $80.

I was lucky enough to be at the Gateway desk when a cancellation came in and was able to get 3 days in the buildings nearest the terminal at $37/night. These were supposed to be suites but the room I got was really no larger than a regular room. It had a small foyer, average size bedroom (1 queen bed) with small refrigerator and microwave, a bathroom and wash basin. In previous stays where a suite was offered it always had another room with a second TV and a fold-out bed. I wonder how they justify the $37 for the room I was given?

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Roger in Jacksonville, FL
