Three retirees flew commercial from (2)Boston and (1) from Orlando to San Juan for a one week stay @ USCG Housing Area in Bayamon (near San Juan). There are about 150 units at the housing area but only about 10 are available for rental via MWR. Ther are 3/s bedrrom units avil fro rental; our unit had 2 bedrooms upstairs and a full bath. Downstairs was a fully applianced kitchen, dining room, large living room, 1/2 bath and an enclosed lanai. In the area was a large swimming pool, an exercise room and tennis/basketball/volleyball courts. The grounds at the housing are immaculately maintained. We had originally planned to stay at the El Caney Lodge @ Ft Buchanan, but an incident, last Fall, at an adjacent gastank farm, had forced them to close the El Caney for a while. It may have re-opened by now; it is a little closer to San Juan than the USCG area. Despite miserabale (heavy rains) weather, most of the time, we managed to make several trips to the Condado, Old San Juan, Ft Buchanan and one trip to a rum factory. Only 1.5 days could we sunbathe at the pool. Overall a good time was had by all. We are in a transition mode to another home in the Orlando area and much of our stuff is packed. Tel no for USCG Bayamon can be obtained via Military Living Book or the USCG MWR website. |
