Roger: Weymouth Naval Air Station closed, as previously noted. It's off Rt 3 that goes along the South Shore down to Plymouth and Cape cod. I have friends next door in Abbington, MA. I've stayed at Hanscome AFB, but it is on the NorthWest side of greater boston off Rt. 128 going north towards New Hampshire. The Quarters are very nice. Hanscome is in the historic area of Lexington & Concord ("..the British are coming, the British are coming..midnight ride of Paul Revere, etc."). You might be better off for convenience sake to book a Days Inn or something on the south shore. Quincy or Braintree would be alot closer. Brockton is a little farther, but closer than Hanscome. Maybe look for Bed & breakfasts around there. Take a look at a mape of the greater Boston area. Good Luck.

Roger, don't forget Hanscom AFB, which is about 20 miles northwest of Boston. The wife and I stayed there last spring and it was quite nice. They even had accomodations for our daughter and two of the grandkids in another building within walking distance of ours. See hanscom.af.mil on the web or call them at 781-377-4441. If memory serves, the price was $34.50 for our room and $37.for the kids. It is easy on an off from I-95/MA128 and doesn't appear to be much more than 40-45 miles from Weymouth. Good luck! Ed K

Hi Roger, googling "weymouth" (note spelling) and "navy" turns up the Weymouth municipal site, which seems to indicate that the base has already been Brac'd out.

http://www.weymouth.ma.us/navalbase/index.asp

Wikipedia seems to bear this out.
