OMG, we took our kids to the Maritime Museum in Newport News. when we lived in the area. It was a fun place for them. I think the entire tidewater area is a great place to visit.
Stephen are the cabins hard to get int he summer, and how long out will they reserve them?

Phil, the Army Transportation Corps museum is at Ft Eustis. The transportation folks operate watercraft, and that my be what you are thinking of. According to Wikipedia

Outdoor exhibits include the vehicle park with a selection of representative vehicles used in the transport command. A marine park has Army water vessels, including a DUKW and a tugboat and various sized amphibious craft including landing craft and wheeled barges.[12]

Phil,

Ft Eustis has a museum that’s OK. I think you’re thinking about the Maritime Museum in Newport News. This is a world class museum, well worth taking the time to visit. http://www.mariner.org/

I understand (never been there) that Ft. Eustis has a great maritime transportation museum that should not be missed.
