Kings Bay: Out the service station gate about a mile and a half is Aunt Bea's on the left in a strip mall.
Good food. all you can eat buffet for lunch which starts at 1030. No more than $9.00. 5 or 6 people in uniform were in there eating when we were there. |

I just got home from RV trip to the same places you mentioned. Stopped at all of them returning from trip to the Keys. Stopped at KB Sub Base to hook up with friends who were there.
Agree with Karen, there are places to eat on KB Sub Base.
Off base: There was a very nice place to eat in old home in St Mary's. About three blocks up from water front. Also many places to eat in the shopping center. If you go out the gas station gate and keep going straight, you will see a few places in strip mall on your left. About a mile from Wal-Mart. Country Kitchen has great food in that strip mall. In that same strip mall, there is a nice Italian restaurant to eat at.
As far as JAX, walk across the street from lodging and eat at the galley in the hospital.
Hospital galley is run by military. All uniformed personnel working in the hospital galley. Great lunch. Breakfast is great for the money. Not open on weekends or holidays. This is not the main base galley, which does not allow retirees in there.
At Dobbins ARB, I ate at the consolidated mess. Nice meal. It is located close to lodging. May not have been opened when you were there. I am not talking about the old AF dining facility building which is in the “center” per say of the lodging parking lot.
The submarine museum in St Mary’s is interesting. Boat ride from St Mary’s to Fernandina Beach is nice. Spend day there and many nice restaurants in Fernandina Beach. |

re: King's Bay, (no place to eat on base), although retirees are not allowed in the galley, we found plenty of places to eat on base: Food court containing a Subway, Comissary that made sandwiches to order, which we took to Cumberland Island, snack bar in Bowling Alley, as well as a Pub-type place near the bowling alley that served food. Also a McDonalds was on base. |

Kings Bay Sub Base: Last week we stayed two nights in DV quarters near St. Mary's, between Savannah and the Florida state line (Protocol: 912-573-4871)at a cost of $45 per night. The suite could use a little sprucing up, and had only a double bed. It was convenient for visiting Cumberland Island National Seashore via a 45-minute ferry ride ($17 each). A ranger-led tour featured the history of the Carnegie family's stay on the island and a visit to the burned-out ruins of a once grand house. No place to eat on base; no retirees in the galley. Downtown restaurants were not open yet, except for a little place called Pauley's, which we enjoyed.
Jacksonville NAS: (904-542-3427/3138) Beautiful accommodations on the 5th floor of a building situated right on the banks of the St. John River. $65. Right near Mulligan's, which served three meals a day of acceptable fare.
Dobbins ARB, Marietta (Atlanta): We've stayed here often before, very small rooms, no place to eat on base, $46. For breakfast, go out the gate, turn left (north)on Delk Road, 2-1/2 miles on left is silver-colored Marietta Diner.
Often in DV quarters, for which E-9's and O-6's usually qualify, I've seen other ranks represented in the guest books. Doesn't hurt to ask. |
